Default Why is my car slower with headers?

I have had the Alpha Werks header on my car for about a year or more and last night me and a buddy went head to head on the highway. We started off in thrird gear and then took off at the same time, well we did this three times and he beat me every time, I could not catch up to him if I tried. He has an RS1 with a K&N CAI and Meagan exhaust with factory exhaust manifold, and I have a K&N CAI, a Magna Flow hi-flow cat and TRD muffler. I just don't get it. This is also not the first time me and other friends with Tc's drove all crazy and I was trying to keep up. >>>>????<<<<< WTF !

I do still have the check engine light that comes on every now and then from the headers, I hope that's not causing this lack of power.

it must be the lightweight rs1 mats we have bro most definitley and i heard red weighs less than black because my red seats dont absorb as much sunlight as the darker colored seats you have so no added photon weight in that department...plus the slightly darker gunmetal on the rs1 enkis are lighter because there is more carbon in the paint which makes them lighter as well....bro im tellin u its a rs1 thing u wudnt understand...oh and dont get me started with my aem battery tie-down that limits body roll like you wouldnt believe...lol joe bro i think its time for that g35 buddy

its the trd exhaust vs the megan...also it could be a number of things...u might be shifting too early, staying on the clutch too long, and...

granny shifting, not double clutchin like u should

Definately the exhaust. You can't have all that on a tiny 4 cylinder like this. they require SOME back pressure for power and torque. Header, High flow cat, and wide open exhaust,

It's weird you say that because just today i had my complete exhaust redone. I had a header and a glasspack with the stock cat. I got a dual chamber muffler to replace the glasspack and HOLY **** it is a whole new car and SOOO much faster, torquier and more highway power!

I'd probably say the biggest problem is the high flow cat

i vote for driver error, how much dynamat? that stuff is freak'n heavy. Also get the code read maybe its not the header code (catalyst effeciency) and the car is in limp mode. If the code is cat effec then thats not the problem it probably you.
Ive beat cars way out of my leage before with just driver skill. Its why some people run 15.1 in a stock tc and some run a 16.2

depends on how much weight you have in the car..and to tell you the truth the trd muffler blows.. if u got a cat back exhuast it would help release your car a lil bit...it also depends A LOT on the driver. not saying you cant drive but just stating the facts.

A header also shifts your power band up in the RPM range due to a much better flowing exhaust escape, that could be a potential problem depending on your setup.

Then you'll know...

x2. get the code read to make sure it's just the header throwing the CEL and not anything else that may put ur car in limp mode. and if both you guys are manual, it's probably driver skill.

yeah really no point in having headers if the high flow cat is going to make you loose the power teh headers add.

It might be driver error, but also TRD muffler. TRD stuff isn't tuned for top end power; it's more for mid-range power and daily driving.

Switch drivers like someone said and see if you can beat him in his car.

Not trying to threadjack, but this thread is helpful to me so far. So I guess the plan I had of getting 2.5" piping after my downpipe with a high-flow cat and two resonators is out of the question.

I've got a Megan header and downpipe I'm going to be installing this weekend. When I head to the muffler shop next week to get rid of the rasp, what should I be looking to get installed, but still want the benefit of having that header? Keep the stock cat, but get the bigger piping only, perhaps?

The TRD muffler is pretty much the stock exhaust but sounds meaner. Your header is freeing up your air and then its getting stuck. Do you have an spipe?

Its a sad fact but the more air you free up the louder your car is .... I dont like loud cars but w/ my 2 resonators its as quiet as its going to get.

Honestly i wouldn't put the header and s-pipe on until after the new exhaust. It will be UNBEARABLY raspy. Bigger pipe works well, thats what i did

Maybe it's 'cause you have more than one header installed.

I know, I'm a jerk.
