$1000 Supercharger install?
#22
Okay. EL Cajon wants $1000 as well.
And today it seems as if the great quote I got from Toyota of Escondido was too good to be true. Apparently the parts guy who gave it to me "drastically underestimated" the time it takes to install without first speaking to a service advisor. So, they now want $1200 as well. This is infuriating.
I was told, however, that if I can produce a printed quote from another dealership that they would do their best to match that price. So, between San Diego and LA, anyone get a good price on an install who won't mind revealing which specific dealership did it?

The labor price per hour isn't really the problem with all these quotes. They're all charging between 75 and 85 bucks per hour. The problem is that they are all saying it's going to take 15+ hours to install it. That's what seems a little too high for me. I just don't understand why dealerships that I've spoken to on the east coast tell me they do them all the time in 6 or 7 hours, yet in SoCal it takes 15+.

Update...
After a little "talking" with the guys at Escondido, they said they could install it for $850. A few hours after setting up an appointment to have it installed on Monday, Mossy Toyota returned my call with a $625 offer. :D
So, tomorrow morning, the S/C goes in for $625!
I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Okay guys. Here's an update.
So I got the s/c installed at Mossy Toyota for $625. It'll probably be the last install they do at $625 because it ended up taking about 2 days to complete. So, lucky me.
Or maybe not. Driving off the lot, it would make a really funny noise when I came to a stop. At idle, RPM's would drop to around 300, a loud clicking noise could be heard in the cabin (not the normal s/c chatter) and the brake pedal would pulsate. Sometimes the entire car would shake, and it felt as if it wanted to stall. So, I drove it right back to the dealer. Waiting for the service manager, the car did stall. Restarted, and the RPM's just bounced between 500 RPM and 1500 RPM, as if I were touching the gas and letting off, touching the gas and letting off... But, obviously I wasn't. After a few minutes of this, it stalled again.
Anyway, they rechecked everything, and said they couldn't find what the problem was. So now, they have to wait for the TRD master-tech for this region to come off of his Labor Day vacation to figure it out.
Oh, they said the 2 reflashes were definitely done.
Anybody have any idea what the issue could be?

It's amazing to me how dealerships so close together can charge such drastic differences for the exact same thing.
