does tranny slippage lead to permanent damage? or can you always fix it by turning down the boost

Im curious about that too. Is slippage necessarily bad? Is it wearing away at the teeth/grooves on the torque converter each time this happens? If so it will get worse correct? What can we do? Get a new torque converter? Where would I get one? HELP!!!! lol
