Default 3 inch Exhaust anyone?

Is anyone going to be making a 3" Exhaust for our cars? Does anyone with F/I specifically Turbos have a 3" Exhaust? Is it worth it?
Does it add extra performance or just annoying loud sound? Would it scrape on our cars with a lowering of about 1.5"?

I posted about Exhausts before now just wondering if anyone actually has/had a 3"?

there really is no point for a 3inch exhaust on our cars...it would only be needed if you were making 400+ hp, and since our cars are FWD we shouldnt even be pushing out that much. but no you wouldnt scrape if your lowered that much

if you have a turbo 3" is the way to go.

You can make big power from a 3". Quicker spool.

THe bigger the exhaust the better on a turbo car. You need to get rid of the exhaust.

3" DP with a E cut out. Best power mod

I know that open downpipe is the best setup, however. This is for a daily driver if I ever try to set the best at the drag strip maybe ill disconect the exhaust other then that open downpipe to me isnt worth the hassle with cops asking why my exhaust is so loud. I think my biggest questions that noone asnwered was is a 3 inch exhaust worth having on a daily driver or would it be too loud even with a resonator or two? and have problems with scraping.

i answered the question about scraping...NO, it wont scrape.

also, do not get a 3inch exhaust on the tC if it is your daily driver, dont get a turbo if its your DD. i would get the supercharger just because ifs more relialbe in the long run, and is more comfortable to have. the most i would go with N/A or F/I is 2.5inches, or hell even a 2.75...but 3 inches is way too large, you would be producing way very littleback pressure and would end up losing hp

^haha maybe I shouldnt drive it since its my dd. Iam jk I really do appreciate the answers while I never turboed a car before I know what Iam getting into with downtimes, maintance, replacing parts, more downtimes. While this is dd I have plenty of other means of getting around between friends, family, gf, and renting a car if need be.

Now may I ask what exactly do you mean by too much backpressure? wouldnt there be less backpressure? I see the hp loosing, do you mean while out of boost Id have less hp? really appreciate all the answers.

my bad..i meant very little. by more boost you will obviously gain more hp..but you always want some back pressure..getting rid of it is not a smart thing to do. i wish i knew more so i could help you..but do a little research, you will see that im right.

For turbocharged engines, 2.5 inch is the minimum size pipe that you would want to run, even for the smaller engines providing reduced back pressure and a deeper exhaust note.

It wont neccessarily be a quicker spool, it will be a lazy spool at the get go, and
you will not have any gain at top-end

^Iam sorry I dont quite follow you recommend -....? I plan on running 6 psi at first on the zpi kit, then eventually upgrade with mods and up the boost to 8-9. Would 2.5 be sufficent for all that while keeping the car a dd?

OK.. Just to let you know 3" on the Supercharger will not cause you to loose power due to it being run on the pulley... I do have a 3" exhaust and it is a lil loud yes, but with a resonator it isnt that bad. With lowering it you shouldnt be bad, but I will tell you one thing. Running a 3" mandrel bent exhaust is not easy. I had to end up crush bending my S-Pipe to get it to fit through with no problem, and I am also probably going to drop down to either a 2.5 or 2.75" exhaust.
If I were you I would go with a 2.5" ESPECIALLY with going turbo. You do want some back pressure with your system.

Im saying do a 2.5" exhaust.

I am using the Dezod 2.5" Turbo-Back exhaust setup.
Thing is soooo wicked, I love it, its perfect for the tC

Funny cause I have a 3" no cat 1 resonator no muffler on my SRT4.

4 cyl 2.4l Turbo

I gained about 20 hp from a Turbo back. Everyone with an SRT4 does.

You want no back pressure with a Turbo car. We got guys running 4". Now that's crazy.

3" with cat and 1 resonator is going on my Turbo tC.

o yea dont forget the 3" intake.

3" intake with a 3" exhaust makes great power.

Highlandermac has a 3 incher
That's unfortunate

Anyway, 3" is ok on a turbo car running a lot of boost, but is overkill on the s/c.

Um.. you sir are wrong... You want little to no back pressure on a turbo'd car for good power, and proper spool up. Back pressure is good on a N/A car but on a turbo car, the turbo acts as the exhaust systems back pressure. The more air flowing throught the exhaust side of a turbo, the more power you will make and the faster it will spool. Go 3" from the turbo back... Do it right the first time.
