The AEM ECU and what it can do
Just so you guys are all clear here is some info on the AEM ECU and what it can do
Here is some more info on the AEM EMS' capabilities.
Trust me guys, this is the one product that has enabled the Supras to make 1000+RWHP reliably.
AEM Plug & Play Programmable Engine Management System (EMS)
AEM's Plug & Play Engine Management System (EMS) is the first of its kind and will forever change the way you look at fuel injection tuning! This user-programmable system plugs directly into a vehicle's factory ECU harness and requires no additional wiring. Windows™-based software (2000, NT, 98, 95, ME) makes the task of copying, viewing and manipulating data as simple as a click of the mouse. User-defined templates are easily configurable and enable tuners to establish "quick keys" to any pertinent information during the tuning process. The AEM EMS's infinitely-adjustable software allows tuners to program virtually any combination of engine control, power adders and auxiliary devices, and accurately deliver proper amounts of fuel and correct ignition timing for ANY boost level or operating condition.
AEM EMS Applications»
Installs In Minutes
Since the EMS is designed to work with your specific car, it can be installed in minutes without the need to modify your vehicle in any way. You literally just unplug your factory ECU and replace it with the EMS.
Plug & Play Technology - No Wiring Necessary
Each EMS part number has been designed with a specific car in mind, meaning it will plug in exactly the same as the factory computer it replaces. It uses no adapter loom or external jumper harness. It has been built with the same plug that your factory ECU came with.
Fuel Table Automapping
With AEM's new Fuel Automapping software, you can tune your engine in literally minutes! All you need is an accurate air fuel ratio input and then let the ECU do the rest. You have the ability to define the target A/F ratio at 357 different Load/RPM points as well as all the accuracy criteria. Automapping is included with every AEM EMS sold at no additional cost!
Base Maps Included
AEM always make available base maps to help you get started. They are what you need to start your car, get a basic idle, make you're A/C work and more. AEM actually put hundreds of hours into their base maps on stock cars and even drive them back and forth to work in traffic as final tests. But what about heavily modded cars? Put a Big Turbo on your Si?, How about a ProCharger on your Mustang? Check out the AEM Electronics Forum because AEM makes available all sorts of maps for most of the common modifications. AEM probably already has a map for you!
Programmable Traction Control
Finally a way to put that power to the ground. With AEM's programmable traction control, you can get the 60 ft times you need. No individual wheelspeed sensors are required and you get to program the allowable acceleration rates based on RPM and Gear. This is included with every AEM EMS sold at no additional cost!
Onboard 512kb Datalogger
No more racing with your laptop in the passenger seat! With our 15 channel, high speed internal datalogger, you can finally get the data you need to take it to the next level. With access to over 400 internal operating parameters and featuring logging rates of up to 250 samples/sec per channel and "loop" logging, you'll practically be buried in data! Additionally, the logger can be activated based on a cockpit switch, RPM, car speed, load or throttle thresholds. The supplied AEMLog professional data analysis package supports math channels, multiple file & channel overlays and histograms. Of course, if you want to race with your laptop duct taped to your roll bar, go right ahead because we also feature adjustable speed PC datalogging. Both loggers are included with every AEM EMS sold at no additional cost!
10 Cyl Sequential Fuel Injection
The AEM EMS features 10 sequential fuel injector drivers. Any injector can be configured to fire in any order at any time. Also, any injector can be configured to run as a fully sequential Staged injector of any size. No shortcuts here, the staged injectors are fully sequential and you can define exactly how much fuel they deliver via a 357 point Load/RPM table.
16 General Purpose Outputs
Tired of trying to decide if the ECU should control your Radiator Fan or your Fuel Pump? Well, there's no way you could use all the outputs available on the AEM EMS. With 16 dedicated GPO's you can activate most anything. Both Low Side (switched ground) and Hi Side (Switched +12v) GPO's are available. Each is activated based on user defined Load, Temp, TPS, RPM and Speed thresholds. Alternately, they can be activated by dedicated functions like "Fuel Pump", Cooling Fan", "Gear Dependant Shift Light", AFR Warning light" and so on. Not enough for you? well every unused Fuel (10), Coil (5), Stepper ( and PW (2) drivers are also available as additional GPO's bringing the potential number of GPO's to a staggering 41. Think about the possibilities.
7 Definable Switch Inputs
Want a 2 step launch control?, want to control your A/C?, want a dry nitrous setup? Want them all at the same time? Well then, what you need are switch inputs, lots of them. The AEM EMS has 7. That's more than anyone else. It's more than enough.
Electronic Boost Control
You don't need to buy a piggyback boost controller ever again! The one that is included with the EMS at no cost is state of the art. It can drive the factory or aftermarket boost solenoids and can work with all boost levels. It can run in open loop (MBC mode) or full feedback with a 357 point boost target table. Not enough? how about a cockpit boost target override switch or having the boost target defined by vehicle speed? The EMS can do it all.
Soft Cut Rev Limiters
Utilizing user programmable stages, the EMS offers 5 distinct modes of rev limiter. With ignition retard, programmable partial cylinder cut of fuel and/or spark and full cut of fuel and/or spark, the combinations are limitless.
2 Step Launch Control
The EMS gives you the ability to define a secondary rev-limiter, commonly called a 2-Step limiter (Full Throttle, Clutch In, you use both feet, 2 step, get it?). With a user defined RPM value and Cut %, you have the ability to tune your launch to suit the track conditions. Additionally, with AEM's definable switch inputs, you can use the 2-step without the requirement of wiring in a clutch switch.
Wet or Dry Nitrous Control
With the EMS, you have the ability to fully control your nitrous system, either wet or dry. The EMS features two 357 point fuel and spark maps exclusively for nitrous. This allows you to add any amount of fuel and retard the timing in any way you like. Add to this the ability to monitor your bottle pressure (with optional sensor) and activate your bottle heater and you have the ultimate nitrous computer. All this control is included with every AEM EMS sold at no additional cost!
Definable Knock Control
There's a reason why all new cars come with knock sensors and there is no reason not to use them. With the EMS, you can. User programmable knock thresholds and full control on the quantity of fuel to add and/or timing to retard, the EMS allows you unmatched ability to use these sensors to their full potential.
Full Idle Control
With support for both PW and Stepper Motor idle bypass hardware, the AEM gives you the flexibility to tune your idle just like the factory. It features adjustable feedback rate, programmable hi idle, timing and fuel trims based on idle speed and more.
4 EGT Inputs w/Fuel Control
The EMS lets you hook up 4 RTD type EGT sensors directly to the EMS. You can log the data or set up a fuel trim based on your exhaust temperature. This gives you the safety to run big boost numbers and only add fuel as you need it.
16/32 Hybrid High-Speed Processor
Utilizing an advanced 16/32 bit hybrid processor by Motorola guarantees the EMS will always be one step ahead even under the most demanding operating environments.
Wide Band O2 sensor Correction
Utilizing the input for the AEM wide band O2 sensor, you can set up a target air fuel ratio map based upon load and rpm and the EMS will auto correct to get you there. Of course you should tune the car first and get as close to your target as you can!!
They also have the serial gauge here is the info on that
Also, once you guys have the EMS installed, you can get the serial gauge and monitor 19 channels on one gauge!!
This means you can look at load, boost, air temp, water temp, ign timing, speed, and any other data that the aem sees!!
On my car I have the gauges showing fuel pressure, oil pressure, oil temp, tranny temp, Exhaust back pressure, NOS pressure, IGN timing and a few other things!
Then you can data log every one of these things which is invaluable when trying to squeeze every last HP out of a car!!
Every 1/4 mile run I log all those items!!
Here is some more info on the serial gauge!
AEM’s Serial Gauge plugs into the company’s Programmable EMS and has the ability to read 19 channels simultaneously to provide reference for all outputs, including boost, AFR, EGT, H2O, IAT, knock, volts, RPM, vehicle speed, and more! Since it can read all channels at once, AEM’s Serial Gauge eliminates the need to buy a cluster of gauges, or you can link multiple Serial Gauges together to monitor additional channels or to divide your readouts across a few gauges.
The Serial Gauge includes a user-selectable LED display allowing users to set vehicle specific limits, warnings, display ranges and operating ranges. This unit runs the standard EMS datastream by default, and includes 12 preset channels and seven user-selectable channels that are custom-configurable through the PC interface, allowing you to monitor practically anything attached to a sensor. AEM’s Serial Gauge includes user-programmable MIN/MAX storage for EVERY channel and records MIN/MAX values even if you are not using the function—if it’s in the stream the gauge records it. Red, yellow and green LEDs and the center three-digit display are fully user-programmable as well, making this a truly custom configurable unit. Users can set alarms for each channel so that when the signal exceeds a value the Gauge notifies you by flashing all LEDs and switching to the channel where the value was exceeded. User-selectable qualifiers eliminate false warning lights, and the unit includes two outputs to trigger ancillary warning lights based on user selectable conditions. The Serial Gauge also includes user-selectable alarm priority in the event multiple alarms sound, allowing you to set alarm readouts in your order of priority.
AEM’s Serial Gauge includes interchangeable silver and black bezels and pin guides, and black and white faces for a customizable look. Quick-Connect technology allows you to install the gauge and connect the wiring separately for easy installation and less chance of damage to the circuit board. The Serial Gauge includes a harness, wiring to connect to the EMS, a daisy-chain adapter for linking multiple gauges to one EMS and software for a trouble-free installation.

I am not saying you have to buy it. I said it is one of the safest ways to make power. I am not saying your motor is going to toast but it would be a good way to make sure that it does not...
#9
They are also doing a plug a play for the TC. The one we sell now is custom made. Aem told me about 2-3 months... We can make one for the XB now I just need a XB for a donner to make the harness...
#10
It definetely kicks some Unichip, Emanage, any piggyback as$. I think Motec and Haltech systems are as good or better but cost more. AEM is a bargain for what it does. I own one and I am one happy ****. You can tune 600hp+ car with Apexi unit; it does not mean its a good idea.
#12
The haltech and motec are very god but there is no ECU on the market that has all of the options that the AEM does. The AEM does so many things I lose count some times. Like for all you auto guys the AEM will shift your car for you all you do is put the pedal to the floor and it does so much more...There is no doubt to me that the AEM is the best way to go. All the Supra's, Vipers, 240's, AEM Race car, and many other race teams and many more people run it. So why not run it in the Scion.. It is well worth the money.

Yea I understand that I just think from people testing it that is a lot better then any thing else and makes more power through out the rpm range at lower boost levels becuase you can clean the tune up so well. I am going to put one in our project tc in about 2 weeks and see what it does. I am shooting for 400hp stock block and head...
#15
The AEM is definatly the way to go IF you have the money. Even if you are making 200 HP there are no aspects on the engine that cannot be controlled with their EMS. The plug and play for the tC is not the hold up, its the liabilities that go with the drive by wire application. If all goes as planned, it should all be worked out soon enough.

AEM
Parts_Pimp;
I filled out the r&d vechicle form on their website last week looking to get a plug & play unit and have it installed and dyno tuned. When I called today they told me they already have a x/b for r&d . Oh well I just will have to buy it and pay for the install and dyno tune free would have been sweet. I am just so pumped up that AEM is making a plug & play for the x/b . Now I know what to get myself for my b-day this summer. They start at 1500.00 and the one for the x/b will be around 2000.00 to 3000.00 they said it depends on the car I can't wait to add the AEM to my Blitz s/c and Nx express 50 shot, then add some forged pistons and rods and bump the shot to 75. Next some custom inner and outer axel shafts and some slicks and a back up trans

Yea the AEM will be great. The plug and play will be a few more months. I know the engineer of the AEM very well. Thats why we made our own harness for the TC so we did not have to wait for them but it will be out soon...
