all owners chime in- tensioner shock failure~
so yea heres the deal, i have the supercharger and i have an odd problem.
the belt tensioner keeps failing on me. its in for the second time now and honestly we don't see why a new one wouldn't fail again at this time.
i'm putting this out there to see if anyone else has had this issue, or any suggestions on why this would keep happening.
thank you! and forgive me if i am not using the correct tech terms for the part in question, just let me know, lol.
this is apparently the same tensioner that ALL 2.4l toyotas get so anyone with info.
also don't give any of the TRD hatin, it isn't needed or necissary, its a given so if thats all your after then just hit the close button. if your insistent on being like that in here then imma have to be one of the _______ mods yall are so fond of.

When installed, is the tensioner lining up straight and level with the other pulleys? If not, that would be the cause of the premature failure. All it takes is less than one degree of offset to make that tensioner fail. This is usually true with all motors in general, pulleys or tensioners, especially high RPM applications.

I'd suggest ensuring that the s/c pulley is properly shimmed in order to get the belt aligned right on all of the other pulleys. Probably won't fix the problem, but it may help.

thank you much
well for me, i could tell something was up cause when i would start it, and for as long as 30/45 minutes after starting, warming up and driving, when you were stopped the engine bay rattles like something is loose and banging all over the place and some vibrating in the car.
mine was replaced under warrenty the first time. working on it this time, but it went out in less then a year this time, but just couldn't get it to act up while at the dealership so i didnt bother with it and now that they can see it the warrenty is JUST passed but like i said, they are still working on it seeing as it seems imma have this issue every year, lol

just for grins check to see if you have any shaft play on the s/c, perhaps could be throwing the pulley alignment off. Just a thought

i dont have the car to be able to check that myself, its at the dealership
what i share from here still has to go through whatever the techs there feel like doing. i'm good with the service dept and my supervising tech is my good friend and he tells me everything they are coming across and such.
the car drives just fine otherwise, theres no erroneous grinding or rattling coming from the snail.

That's one of the problems with most dealerships. A lot of them can only fix problems that are in their service manuals, and there really isn't any training on the supercharger.
I know someone at the dealership I bought my car from who had a supercharged tC, so I'd have him work on my car. Last year, I had a problem with the belt shredding and making an awful squealing noise. I took it to the guy at the dealership and immediately knew it needed to be re-shimmed. I haven't had a problem since.
I've noticed some pretty bad rattling coming from the engine bay. It may be time for me to replace the tensioner. I'm pushing 77k miles on my car now, lol.

yea, my friend has been in racing and stuff for ever and nows a ____ ton, and we have worked on a few cars together and he's changed almost everything on tCs between intakes and exhausts before.
changed another supercharger to the 9.5lb pulley just the other week actually.
