Default Am I screwing myself?

Hey all, I don't post here often as I haven't been too into my tC over the past couple years. But I'm on a kick again, I'm ready to make it better faster stronger and so on.
So I saw this guy selling a turbo kit on ebay, and thought i'd throw a bid in, totally not expecting to win it. The price was down at 300 bucks and I seriously expected the price to spike in the last 5 minutes.

Here is the kit
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_500wt_1101

I won it for $396. I didn't even plan on winning it, but it happened. Is there anything in this kit that makes it worth my money, or will I be completely screwing myself out of 400 bucks if I go through with buying it?

HELP!

id say you just screwd your self in the long run. Those are knock off parts including an Ebay turbo.

should have stayed away once you read this "Was installed on car for around 1k miles before I blew it up"

You can sell off the engine cover, intercooler and piping, ETD, and manifold and probably make your money back.

Well I haven't actually paid for anything yet. At this point I could just be a total dick and just not pay for it. I'm not really concerned with my ebay rating.

Wait, the wastegate actually says JDM on it, too funny. Since it's probably made in China, shouldn't it be CDM? From their own website:

http://www.jdmsport.com/about.htm

While many of our products are made and imported from overseas, there all backed with our guarantee of highest quality.
To the original sellers comment about blowing the car up, notice the kit doesn't come with injectors or engine management. Kinda a no brainer it would eat the engine, not indicitive of the turbo being bad.

If I was in the market, I'd keep the piping, the intercooler if you test for leaks and it's good, the couplers if they're reinforced on the high pressure side, and the clamps if they're t-bolt and not crappy hose clamps. OBX does not list a manifold for the tC, it's probably a knockoff with crappy welds. Do not use the turbo, wastegate, BOV or filter, these are critical to proper operation and if they fail your engine is at risk.

You're looking at $2,000 or more to get proper injectors, engine management, BOV, wastegate, a new turbo, manifold, and downpipe to piecemeal a good system together, if you can find good deals used on ScionLife or elswehere. You'd be better off eBaying what's salvageable and buying a kit from PTuning, Descendant or Dezod.

Please don't devolve this into a who's kit is better thread. Judging by your sig there's a fair ammount of bias in your assessment. Any would be more reliable than the ebay setup and all three are respectable. It boils down to what you want to pay and the level of performance you want, but with a stock block you won't max the full performance of any of these kits before blowing the motor.

Hey here is a thought - pay the guy.. your second guessing yourself after you come on here and everyone tells you to not pay. Your part of the problem with ebay.

if you bought it you should pay for it, and not be an ebay low life that ruins the good pricing for the rest of us

Yea, you need to pay for the item. You win some, you loose some, sometimes gambles pay off, sometimes they dont. Luckilly in this case, you'll probably be able to get your money's worth.

Manifold - Sell for $80
Turbo - Sell for $75
BOV/WG - Sell for like $50-75

You could def use the I/C Piping, I/C, and stiffy towards building a turbo kit, so Id say to keep those parts if you really plan on going boosted.

Looking at it that way, you can get close to $200 back, but keep the i/c, piping, and stiffy, not bad really.

So in the end, I talked it over with the seller, and i paid the $45 ebay charged him for the auction, so that he wasn't out that money. And I didn't get the kit. Lucky me. Now I don't feel so bad, and i won't blow my car up with a chinese turbo.

Thats good, Vettereddie's right, it's all in the parts you buy witch makes your car stand out above the rest, so make sure to do alot of research an read up, it makes it alot easier buying parts when you know what kind of power your looking for as well as effect the amount of money your gonna dish out...
