Another toasted s/c

Well first off this one is to equinox2355. No one is asking if the supercharger in question should or should not be replaced. This is not the right post to give your opinion about what is voiding the warranty consists of. The supercharger has many "bad engineering" problems. The shaft is not thick enough for the bearings that are supplied. The shaft is simple and can be made at any good machine shop if your unit is out of warranty. The other big problem of the supercharger unit is that rubber sealed grease filled bearing are being used which produce excess heat which make them seize up. Idealy oil should lubricate the bearings but thats a whole different design. Depending on your budget, teflon sealed or ceramic bearings should be used on the belt driven side of the shaft. You also must take your shaft to a bearing place and have them measure the shaft in order for them to make or give you bearings with the correct tolerances. Another problem is with the bracket on the charger side. The bracket is not flush with the tranny and just sits on the bolt and spacer. You should put some washers around the spacer in order for the bracket to actually have contact with the tranny. Even though this is not a huge problem, it is one and you should adjust this gap between the tranny and the bracket. Another good word of advice is to use some blue locktite on the main bolts of the supercharger.

Hey me and Gompka need the top portion of the stock intake box. Anyone have one laying around?? We have came to the conclusion of putting a grease fitting on the belt driven side and some custom bearings that are sealed only on one side are the best solution. There is too much b/s in making oil fill that little housing because of the 70 possible PSI in the oil system (seals will be leaky). A refillable grease system should be superb!!

The dealer had talked to me as if I didnt know what I was talking about, so I went to Longo instead. Much better quality, and install was great. So far the charger is fine,*Knock on wood*, been boosting since july 08.

Ok to go back to na, you would need, and correct me if Im wrong, an unflashed ecu, oil pan, the smaller injectors, stock heat plugs, warmer thermostat, the stock airbox, and the stock length engine belt. This would make it into completely stock, as if it was right out of the dealership. Also Kikcaffine sells upgraded ceramic bearings for the S/C's, and you can get to the website through his profile. Hope this helps a little.

You can make the ecu go back to stock. There is a thread about it on here somewhere. But v8killer contact kikcaffiene who posted earlier on this page. he has the upgraded bearing kits that work. Just search there are plenty of people with these kits on here.
