If the check engine light is on due to a fuel issue on any OBDII vehicle, the system is adjusting fuel delivery. If the code is set because it is excessively lean, it is because the ECU tried to correct the mixture and could not, or it is consistently out of spec. It is never just a warning that you can ignore. Anytime the ECU sees something like this out of whack, it is trying to compensate for it. If it is beyond a threshold (amount of offset, duration of issue, etc) it sets a code and the light comes on. If you see the light, run the codes and make sure you correct asap, especially when you are dealing with fuel delivery.

Good work on your runs!
