Default Bad boost gauge (Autometer Cobalt)with pics?

I'm not sure if I have a bad boost gauge the needle does'nt sit right in the middle of the box. You can kinda see it in the pics, is this normal ?

No, that's perfectly normal...as long as it is like that only at idle and post boost...when you let off the accelerator...it's the vaccuum part of boosting.

I think that's why it's a box. As long as it's somewhere in the box, your good.

Well if thats what it reads when the car is running them you have a problem. You should read 20 in the vac on any motor. But if this is when the car isnt running then your fine. It should be set at dead zero which would be the bottom of the box.

if you look closely, the top of the box refers to about 1 psi. having at the bottom is normal (i have the 30psi electric cobalt boost/vac gauge).

The pic is when the car is off, when it's idling after it's warmed up it's about 10-12 vac only goes to 20 inbetween shifts or decel. I wondering because with the 9.5 pulley I have i'm only hitting about 7 pounds, it goes to about 5k then stays at 7psi it should keep climbing to 9.5 at redline. I was thinking if the belt was bad the boost would drop or be inconsistant not stay at 7 psi from 5k to redline.

I have an autometer sport comp boost gauge and my needle sits exactly the same. I assume as long as you are in the box, its all good.

Looks perfectly normal to me. Though what you say you see your vac at seems a little off to me. I usually see it at 20 when at idle, 15-10 when cruising, and 34-30 when shifting/letting off the gas while in gear. But When I had my NST 9.5 on it read a full 9.5psi at redline.

So something could be a lil funny with your gauge???

I switched the bypass valve vac line with the boost gauge line so that now the boost gauge is the closest to the throttle body and now it works. -22 at idle and 9.5 at redline, it still shakes alittle though I guess theres no getting ride of that.

Yea, I think the shaking is somewhat normal, I get that aswell. Every once and a while I catch it bouncing between 10-15.

I think it's because of the pcv valve or what ever that green thing is on the vac line.
