Default The Beginner's Turbo Parts Checklist

The time has finally come for me to turbo the tC! I'm planning on a ZPI Stage 0 Kit. For the first few months I will not be running an Emanage unless plans change. For the sake of having one consolidated list of necessary expenses, I am creating this post. Hopefully other future turbo'ers can refer to this to make sure they have everything they need before they start ordering parts. I'm going to get the list started, but I'm sure there are plenty of things I, myself, haven't taken into consideration. So, if you have anything to add that I missed, please go right ahead. THE LIST:

ZPI Racing Stage 0 Turbo Kit
HKS Super Sequential Blowoff Valve w/ Flange
ZPI Racing Pre-Tapped Oil Pan
ZPI Racing Street/Strip Clutch
AEM UEGO 6 in 1 Wideband A/F Controller
Autometer Boost Gauge
Greddy Turbo Timer
NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
Mobile 1 Fully Synthetic Motor Oil
Custom Turbo-Back Exhaust
NEAR FUTURE: Greddy Emanage Blue
NEAR FUTURE: Dezod Black Box

ADDED: Copper Wastegate Gasket
ADDED: OEM Exhaust Manifold Gasket
ADDED: Creative Compacts Gauge Pod

I have heard that when I call ZPI and order, assuming I order the Wideband Controller and Blowoff Valve from them, they will do some mechanical work (welding the Wideband to the downpipe and welding the HKS BOV flange). Again, I'm sure there are things I am missing, so please add them if you can think of them.

Not sure how much that greddy turbo timer costs, but you may want to go ahead and buy the emanage or blackbox instead if the price is comparable. Turbo timer is not a necessity, it's a luxury. I dont have one, I just sit in my car and let it idle about a 2 minutes before I shut it down, serves the same purpose. You also want to add to your list a copper wastegate gasket (19.99) because the one that comes with it is crap. You will also want to add an oem toyota exhaust manifold gasket (like 25 bux) to your list to go between the head and the turbo mani, as i dont suggest re-using the old one. Otherwise it looks like you've got everything covered.

also, maybe try the V-manage instead of E-manage...it is specific for variable valve timing...(MiVEC, VVt-i)

not the stage 0, emanage is separate. it's only another 300 so i might consider it. apparently if you order it from them when you buy the turbo, kenny or one of the guys will give you a base tune map.

ah i see. well dont cut corners when you're getting a boosted setup. spend the extra money to get some kind of ECM. and if you're right, you'll get a base map for it, which is better then nothing. then when you do come around to having enough money, get yourself a custom tune.

I would pay extra for the AEM FIC..$400 and you can kill the emanage blue and the dezod black box with one stone.

ZPI carries it, but I cant seem to find a link to it. I do know the part number was zpi-1100 according to my invoice. If you cant find it from zpi, You can find one on ebay, just search 38mm wastegate gasket.

They also carrie the exhaust manifold gasket, found here:

you have a good list goin...i will admit you are throwing a little money towards upgrading up to stage 1 already.
What are you using as a Boost Controller?

with the stage 0, the stock clutch should be fine unless you have alot of miles on it OR plan to track race your car every weekend. Stage 1...yea i would say 100% upgrade.

if you are looking at the 3"turbo exhaust, it is AMAZING. but that also $900 that could get you a FEW items like Emanage. i have stage 1 being installed THIS WEEK, to save some money, i dont plan on Buying a Turbo Timer until later on..

i have NO problem sitting in my tC for 2-3 min until it cools down.

Yea, I want the turbo exhaust from ZPI, I might wait until Spring to do that tho. Price may go down a bit. Hopefully, it will.

I think with a stage 0, a 2.5 all the way back would be fine, and dezod has one of those. I think it's cheaper, like $500

yeah... i'll have to look harder into exhaust choices and rethink the turbo timer. i dunno if i really want an intercooler or not... doesn't it lower boost pressure? i'm kind of looking to keep the turbo aspects around stage 0... i want to keep the tC as reliable as possible (which also means i need a piggyback of some sort...)
