it's still a lead, though.

did this actor ever send you an email? not one thru ebay, but a direct email? I can track someone to a quadrant of a zip code with that kind of info.

cherryBox..... you have to take into consideration that the eBay account that this guy used could have easily been scammed/hacked as a cover.

idea... did the guy contact your through the eBay message system. if so, copies of the messages were sent to your email account. those copies in your email should show his email address on them as well. check those out. (this is if that account is not stolen/hacked)

Another thing to perhaps look into is the ebay names:
4539Wilson - last buyer to leave a positive feedback for a Vortech Supercharger for an s2k. I am resonably sure that this is part of the scam being as he has only made 2 purchases, one of which is for a $2000+ item....highly unlikely. Furthermore, the second purchase he made was from this person:

kamikaze998, who only used his ebay accounts for purchases until a single sale to 4539Wilson above. He is no longer a registered user and the aforementioned item bought is no longer listed despite being within the 90 day listing period of EBay.
**edit** kamikaze998 also has another registered user ID called turboteg117

Perhaps looking into the other "buyers" from this person could lead to further information in terms of locating him.

i agree, and consider that. looks like the last item given feedback on was from a shill account:
Buyer 4539wilson( 2 ) Jan-17-07 07:23 item:160073935967

however, the owner of the account seems very current, and the recent purchases are typical of that user's type of buy. if the account were hacked, i think we'd see some glaring inconsistencies. further, i think that if this account were hacked, it is likely that the owner would know by now, and the current sale out there would be stopped. thwe only inconsistency that i can see at this time is the fact that previous sales form this seller accepted paypal. That's still somewhat consistent, asuming the user created a listing with the intent to defraud.

so, it is still possible, but it seems safe to assume that this is the profile of the person until we have proof otherwise.

well everything can always be tracked. remember if that good as a hacker and stealing he wouldn't go after so lil money. So ask ebay for possible help in anyway...everytime u place a item for sale u must pay in order to do so...so there should be a credit card account being used!

second as for the prepaid cell ask tmobile cingular etc.. if mins were bought with a credit card as well or debit card. might get something there or as to where he's calling you from?! with cell towers they can find out.

And since your a deputy ask your departments Tech team for help as in finding out the IP address for maybe a possible location or locations where he could live. its just a matter of how much you really wanna catch him.

Good Luck.

Report it to Ebay they will freeze his account and help you however they can. Also it looks like his number is in the ad it self. I'm sure if you give that to the police they can track down where he is.

GEO, it's a prepaid ("throwaway") cellphone. that's what you want if you're going to do some crime.

Yeah, please report it to the eBay fraud department if you already havent. They are slow to respond sometimes, but are very helpful. They will provide you with phone number and contact information for the correct authorities in such cases. Leave him a negative feedback also and alert others of his scam.
