Default Boost Controller's

I know there is alot of question's about boost controllers on this forum so I thought we could open up a discussion about them and people can post there experiences with them..

I'll never own or use a greddy profec2 again. Boost was unstable and there was way to many boost spikes with it. Im not a fan personally of electronic boost controllers. I ran the Turbo XS single stage on my last setup that made 454whp and it was perfect. Im currently using the Pro Logger boost solenoid and controlling the boost on my AEM EMS.

Please share.

My AVCR works like a charm. NO boost spikes at all.

2 things that I think are important.

1) Make sure you buy a dual solenoid. The Greddy is a single and that's part of why it cannot hold boost.

2) In a front wheel drive car, you may want a boost controller that allows RPM or gear dependency. For instance the Blitz Dual SBCID.

I switched from a (electronic) Blitz Dual SBC Spec S, to a (mechanical) TurboSmart Dual Stage.

I went mechanical because it was sooo much easier to up the boost and lower it with just a ****. As for the electronic i had to figure it out, and i had to keep giving the instruction booklet to my tuners so they can figure it out.

Anyways, i do get alittlebit of boost spike maybe 1-2psi for a sec or two, but the AFR's are right where they should be when i spike.

I have the Apexi AVC-R Boost Controller. I can't say much about it but I can say it looks good in the box.

You can control the boost by rpm or by gear which is something I'm looking forward to doing.

I have a Hallman pro rx (w/ light spring) but i guess it dosent really mater im only running 10 psi. i will have to see what happens when i install my 3 inch exhuast.

I would say electronic would be nice to use boost by gear, this would definatly limit some of the wheelspin in the first 2 gears. Also a dual stage or maybe even quad stage for over 300 hourse power would work well too.

Hey any of you high horsepower guys out there do u roast 3rd gear??

just wondering because i do during the winter but i assume another 50+ hp over what i am making would spin them a bit.

I have used several but my notes on some are as follows:

Turbo XS manual, not a fan, poor quality IMO

Blitz Spec S, great but difficult to set-up, VERY consistant.

Blitz SBC ID-3, too flashy, kinda difficult to set-up, good otherwise

GReddy, horrid, tons of boost spikes and inconsistancies. Not a fan!

This goes on though....

im fed up with manual boost controllers.. looking for an electronic

trying to decide between greddy profec b, apexi avc-r, and hks evc.. if anyone has any expierence/comments with any of these or any others I would appreciate it

I plan on getting it professionally tuned.. I just need something that wont spike and will hold boost VERY consistently.

Manual boost controllers are by far the most consistant, and easiest to set up. IMO

I have the AEM Tru Boost (and if I would have read the thread earlier, I would have posted before paul )
It's good for the money as you get a regular boost gauge AND an electronic boost controller sitting in your pod. It's a bit of a pain to configure (according to my tuner) and it does spike a little (.5 to 1 psi) but AFRs are still consistent.

I'll find out how easy it is to switch and useing some of the other functions after I get rutuned for something stable past 5psi.

turbo xs manual. it works fine and does the trick but at the end of the day its an 80 dollar boost controller... im looking to go electronic and apexi looks to be the winner... i love the idea of boost-by-gear. im curious as to how that works? can anyone give a brief explanation?
