Boosted tc Overheat at idle
SO im posting this hear as you guys are the gods of the tc and go hopefully help me sort this out I have a boosted auto tc running 8 psi - i searched and searched and didnt come up with anything to aid me on this - heres what i have going on.
Car will overheat if idling with high (90+) ambient temps for a significant period of time (5+ min). As soon as i get it back up to speed the temp will go back to normal very quickly. Its never boiled over or actually hit the red H mark on the coolant temp guage - im unaware though of what temp this indicates - when it gets hot though it will go slightly above the 2/3 hash and it getsa bit scary. For this issue ive removed flushed and refilled the system with 50/50 mix and added water wetter - half a bottle for each gallon of coolant. At the same time of the flush i also replaced the thermostat to insure this wasnt an issue. Heat works normally at all times. Also there are no leaks and the coolant level has not appeared to drop at all in the radiator or the resevoir.

I have the plastic shielding removed from the radiator to allow for turbo clearance and am using a single 14" fan in a pull config. The fan is operating correctly. It is an ebay fan and im unaware of the cfm - possibly all this is due to a crappy fan??? The engine bay does get heat soaked fairly quickly on a hot day but i assume all turbo tcs see this - as much as possible of my manifold - dp - and dump tube is all exhaust wrapped.
So this brings me to my next step...
What do you guys think it is? Possibly crappy fan? Bubble in the coolant system?? Im thinking of using a long neck funnle tomm night connected to the fill neck and filling it than running the car to help evacuate any air from the system.
Any help would be much appreciated!

as for what i can guess, are you using a good quality coolant for the radiator?
what kind of kit are you running? what size is the intercooler? is it blocking too much of the space infront of the radiator so that it can't get enough cool air circulating through it?
you could try a vented hood maybe to help get some heat away from the engine.

I saw a WT of 227F yesterday. Thats what my ScanGauge II said. I had my single Mishimoto fan running (1900CFM) but obviously it wasn't enough for the Mishimoto radiator. That combined with the A/C on. It was 93F at the time.
Yes, I have a second fan. 2400CFM fan. I have it on manual switch. I guess that one will have to be running any time the car isn't moving.

Yea G im basically running the same solution - the toyota 50/50 premix with water wetter - what is 227 on the factory guage so i can compare what im seeing to yours? And how long were u sitting idle?

OK im getting slightly hotter than that but not by much thats prolly the diff in effeciency from my stock rad to your mishimoto - more efficiency = mor e heat can be dissapated before complete heatsoak and rising temps I didnt notice the diff in cfm flow from a 14" fan to like 10" is fairly little so my 14" fan isnt moving that much air - i bet i could fit 2 10" slim lines in there with it and create a vortex under my hood :D Im about to just put on as many fans as i can physically fit and say fu to this issue

i run a single fan right now and never overheated....well i take that back.....i havce once......its because i had the ac on while i was sitting there at idle.....it took a good 15 minutes though to start getting hot......

Umm quick question - do both of our fans run together at all times or is it a staged setup where one comes on first than the second or something of that nature? I did just use the connector going to the pass side fan i believe to connect to my 14" fan so im wondering if that could be an issue too

Passenger side = Cooling Fan
Driver side = A/C Fan
I have my 2400CFM fan where the A/C fan was. I also had to put it in front of the A/C condensor because my Mishi slim fan is a 12" and the 2400CFM fan is 14"

i had those overheating problems before..
here's my fix
1. Mishimoto radiator
2. 3 good cfm fans
3. 170 deg thermostat
and im waiting on my turbo blanket and manifold blanket/heatshield.. and if there is a vented hood that will fit my setup, i will take that too

I have the PTP turbo blanket... I have the Mishimoto radiator (and the damn thing won't stop leaking). I have a 170F Gates thermostat (not installed yet).
I'm not doing the vented hood. Why? Rain.
