yes i'm posotive it is. i had to put royal purple in my car because i dropped some debris in the oil i planned on reusing. plus i hate the smell of gear oil and i know the smell. it's not coming from the diff and it's not buildup from being splashed from another location. it's definatley dripping i had a sizable puddle under my car when i pulled it out of the garage this morning. what do i dooooooo.

if its gear oil jack up the car after all the tranny has been drained and plug it back up. then slowly start to refil the tranny again. once it starts leaking try to isolate where the leak is coming from. it can be coming from only a few places.

1. passenger or driver side axle input area (this will trickle leaks slowly in the center of the bell housing where it meets the block or on the other side where that shaft slides into the tranny.
2. somewhere along the bell housing where the seal for the tranny is and the gears are set into (right side of tranny facing the car or a few inches along the bell houseing going to the block)
3. center of bell housing on the bottom which will indicate its coming from the spline on the inside of the tranny.

my guess is if the tranny has been taken off before once or twice or more its usually the seals on the tranny where the axles slide into. those seals are pretty brittle and tear up easy. they could have gotten torn a little from removal of the axles or when it got put back on. the seals are cheap and they are relatively easy to replace once the axle is fully out.

FYI i would also check on the half shaft bracket (passenger side) if the 2 14mm bolts that hold the passenger side axle into the half shaft bracket are loose or have come off. these 2 bolts hold the axle in and it could be a simple problem as retightening them and making sure the axle is snuggly installed back into the tranny preventing the leak if its coming from there. so i would take a few min. and inspect to make sure the bolts are there and are nice and tight.

get back to us once you've dont a better inspection of for these things or have isolated where the leak is exactly coming from.

the leak is coming from the bell housing. i have taken the tranny off twice the diff is dry and there is no splatter around the tranny say if an axel isnt properly seated. i've had both seals replaced after the first time i dropped my tranny. i'm leading twards the inputshaft seal being bad but it's just so much fluid left behind. because if the car is on a hill leaning to the passenger side. it doesnt leak.

How hard is it to build a short block? i found a hook up on a block and i am debating on buying a built block or building this block myself. i just don't know what would be the most cost effective rout. i think i can stumble my way through the build.

the most cost effective route would have been to buy the $1,500 built block that nvmytc was selling in the classifieds. im pretty sure its gone now though.

mine has done that for years. what do you expect hot oil to do. should be fine if there isn't any smoke comming out of the exhaust. as long as your vac reads 22 at idle, and compression tests check out, ur good.

i haven't done a compression test in a while i can't imagine the car is at 100% it's got about 30K miles of boost on it and 5K was on a really bad tune.
