Default Breaking in a Built Motor?

Ok so as the time arrives soon (2-3 weeks) when i get my baby back with the internals and some head work done im just curious on the best way possible to break the car in so everything sets right and the piston rings set perfect. Ill be breaking in the car with All motor and then putting the turbo back on after its broken in.

I heard the first like 20 miles is very important and that u should actually GET on it to redline like atleast twice so the rings set better? and then from there on out just chill? is this correct?

how many miles would be recommended to drive on for a nice break in?

2 of my friends just got there motor built in a civic, the shop recommended to break in 500 miles- 1000 miles. and that what central florida turbo recmmended me to do too

ya but the main goal is to break it in so the rings sit perfectly.. i heard its recommended to get on ur car in the first 20 miles a couple times. but idk.

i was just reading a couple sites and also a guy i know told me to get on it in the first 20 miles.

ya i heard its good to break it in on a dyno.. like put a load on it and such, raise the rpm's.. then drive around for 500-1000 miles

Break for racing should be done as fast as possible bcuz as the motor breaks in it increases friction and looses compression, so many race cars are broken in on the dyno. For longevity, break the motor in with atleast 500 miles of city driving before gettin on it. You should do your first oil change with in the first 200 miles using a break in oil or organic oil as they are thicker... Use a magnetic oil drain plug to collect and metal shavings... If dont see any shavings cut the oil filter open and check in there and make sure, if none are seen then youre ready to beat on it. If you see some metal. you'll have to tear down and see where its comin from.

ok lets say they give me the car to break it in.. ur saying i should have non synthetik oil in it for the first hundred or so miles? then get a oil change to synthetik?

i have read many things that say to break it in how you plan on driving it every day. But be sure to do alot of compression braking. this is what really helps to seat the rings.

yeah^^ same thing. allow the engine to come up pretty high in the rpms then let off the gas and let the car slow down by using the engine. it would be really great if you had a real big hill by your house. start going down it and just use the engine to slow you down, espcially in a lower gear like 3rd or so.

when you engine brake it builds up the compression in the cylinders forcing the rings out against the cylinder walls thus helping to seat them

Its about hitting all sorts of driving conditions, from quick bursts, to slow and steady
