Default Built transmission for boost, what is needed ?

hey guys i'm thinking about building transmission to handle boost safely.

I know some components to be done.

1) Clutch
2) LSD

What else can be done to it so for example if i boost in 4th or 5th gear my tranny won't blow up.

Thanks.

Why not use the stock fly wheel with a turbo? Is it necessary to replace the flywheel? Right now, I have the TRD LSD and the EXEDY STAGE 1 for the transmission. Flywheel was never a thought, should it be?

ok so far i have the following:
1) ACT HD street clutch
2) competition 12lbs flywheel
TRD LSD is next.

so pretty much for the gears and to make them stronger the only thing is to have them Cryo/REM treated ? and nothing else can be done ?

How much do that usually run for ?

I am in the same boat as you Wolf as far as building something stronger than just an LSD/clutch combo,

I am curious as to how much stronger the cryogenic treatment will make the tranny as well as cost.

I found this link but I'm not sure how close the pricing would be in your local area,

http://www.nwcryo.com/motorsports_price.html

Complete Transmission: $135,

Which seems a little low but then again I've only heard of exotic piston and such being cryo treated...

ultimately 500whp.

but for the near future whatever i can safely get out of 20 psi and then i'm going to stop and concentrate on suspension and making the power reliable.

i dont understand why you want a stronger 5th?

our transmissions at the junkyard are like $100-$200 just run stock ones

there $300-$500 and more then 50k miles here in maryland. aways woundered if andrewtech and ppg gears would come out with gear sets for our trannies. like they have for wrx/sti. but the again for a andrewtech tranny is like $5000.00 but there good for 900+wtq.

TCpete is the only person i know with different gearing on his tranny, you can ask him to see what he did.

"Blow up" is being loosely used here. Our trannies don't Blow up people. It's the synchros that fail in 4th gear (and in some freak accident way a 5th gear could fail...happen to me). But the trans itself will not blow up. Only solution to the stock internals of the trans is Cryo/REM treatment as said before. However that is not 100% fail safe either.

Other more expensive solution is a Dog Box. But you are looking at $7k last I checked for a dog gear box.

You say that our trannys don't "blow up", but how do you know that? My carrier bearing and the wrist pin in the diff went out, milling a hole in the case, sending fluid everywhere, starving the other gears for fluid untill it wouldn't even turn over. This all happened in about 20 seconds. I'd say it blew up.

The problem I have with our tranny is that there is no aftermarket support and if you make any appreciable about of power, you can't really put it down without fear of losing 4th.

Rythm, I wasn't meaning to attack you, I just get frustrated at how flimsy these trannies are compared to the stuff available to other cars
