I'm buying that it's the headers. I went out and felt of my s/c shaft after not driving it for around 8 hours in an air conditioned garage with the hood closed and it was still almost hot enough to burn you so I would hate to see how hot it gets cruising much less at WOT. I'm wrapping my AW headers as soon as I get the wrap in.

I don't know if you should be announcing that you went out and felt your shaft, but its always nice to know its still there I think I am going to make a heatshield. Its funny because I had a header wrap kit that MMW gave me and put it in the classified and nobody wanted it. Its sold now so I'm gonna make a heatshield.

Its very possible I'm sure that if more boost is added to the s/c, the seals could be the problem themselves... maybe they aren't designed around that much boost and are just blowin.. I dunno.. sounds interesting.. kinda makes me second guess the whole s/c option all together.. I might just stick with this new WRD t/c they have coming out that is just plain sick.

isn't this kit a rebadged vortech kit or is it just a vortech compressor? I find it hard te believe vortech would make a kit that couldn't handle the heat from a header considering they are probably the largest supercharger company around.

sorry if i missed it posted earlier, but i wonder if the header was on before his sc was installed? If that was the case, i would expect the dealer to either notify that the header could be a warranty problem, or if they said nothing....... then does that bounce it back in their court???
just wondering out loud; apologies if i'm off base here...

Well, it is looking like I am going to keep her... Too much for a 350Z...
I am going to either get a new S/C and MAKE SURE I GET EVERYTHING FROM THE OLD ONE, or I am gonna work a little bit with some other dealerships to see about getting the warranty, OR if they tell me that they will not warranty the new S/C that will get put on, I am probably gonna turbo her. Cause I am not going to spend 4K to have it happen again. I would rather spend the money on a turbo kit that would be cheaper to fix because of available parts.

Good to hear you're still a part of the tc family. I'm wrapping my header as we speak because of your incident.

highlander:
1) can you call vortech or trd direct to see if they have replacement parts? if this was in warranty repair, i doubt toyota would have to order up an entire kit. that would make no economic sense.

2) if you do go with a new s/c are you going to heat shield the header?

Jetlounge
1) I have already talked to Vortech, they said that they were just contracted to build the main unit of the S/C and that the shaft and mounting brackets and all are made by TRD. So I called TRD and asked about buying just the specific parts... The guy I talked to got a total attitude with me and basically said it was my fault and that I would have to spend 3250 for a new S/C.

2) If I go with a new S/C I am going to leave the stock header on. I may gut out the cat, but I will leave the heat shield and the header, so if it does it again I will the stick my foot up TRD's A$$HOLE....

ditto on the attitude they got.

well long story short, i went back to my dealer asking them what happen how come you dint install the TRD cap. blah blahb blah. they said they put it on then it broke then they order. 30 days later nobody notified me. then it was sent back to TRD. then 6 months later i show up! then service manager was ____ed at TRD peeps because was told that they hat to order another KIT just to get the cap. blah blah blah. manager talked to head TRD and blasted him, 1 day later i have my cap on.
