I've been searching around this forum for the past hour and have not found the answer i am looking for. First of all, i was reading the latest issue of Turbo and High Performance magazine, and i was reading about the cover RSX. It states that it has a Greddy turbo kit that is CARB legal. This definitely sparked my interest. So then i go onto Greddy's webpage and it says that almost all of their "bolt-on" turbo kits are 50 state CARB legal. Which leads me to my question...is the Greddy turbo kit for the tC CARB legal? Please do not answer this if you are not sure...guesstimates are not needed because i can do that myself. Somebody who is knowledgeable, please help me. If this kit is CARB legal...i'm all over it!!
Thanx for the time and hopefully this will help others who like me, live in California and crave that legal boost!!

Greddy's Kit is not legal due to removing the cat in the header in favor of the manifold when turboing.

And it will never be legal even with a cat converter installed. A lot of their turbo kits released a few years ago are still pending the CARB legal sticker until now.

But from what i found, a few of their kits that ARE CARB legal and DO have EO numbers...also have deleted the cat, so it never being legal because of that is not true. Is anybody here have any direct connects to Greddy and actually know what's up with this...i've contacted Greddy and am still waiting my response so i'm hoping someone here can help me please

Good luck. The Nissan scene has been told the same BS story 3 years ago and no progress has ever been made.

Like I said, it'll never be CARB legal unless if the kit was released as CARB legal out of the factory. The way I see it is, why would Greddy bother with the CARB stuff if people are already buying their kits as it is.

Some of the Honda kits are smog legal because there are more Honda ricers/tuners than anything else.

It is NOT legal for the same reasons as intakes AND headers. Removing the primary CAT and removing the special filter in the stock air box.

As of Nov 22, 2006, Greddy Turbo kits for the Scion tC have NOT received a CARB EO#

most of their turbo kits are carb legal besides the tc kit and 350z kit from what i know =/

thanx 2 fast, be4 i checked into SL today i checked out that webpage and found the same...but, it also says that the Jim Wolf TC for the 350Z and G35 are not CARB exempt/legal but my friend has the paperwork for his G35 that includes the EO #, which makes me wonder if they remember to include everything on that site. Thanx tcholic, that's probably the closest thing to the answer i was searching for. Oh well, my hopes were high for a minute...time to drop back to reality

Sorry, didn't mean to offend any Honda lover out there but there's nothing stupid about the truth. You can't deny the fact that Honda has a bigger market in the import scene than anything else.

Also, the following Greddy turbo kits are NOT CARB legal:
RSX, Prelude, RX-8, 240sx, 350z, G35, TC and XB

So that leaves the following kits as CARB legal:
06 Civic SI, 92-95 Civic EX/SI, 96-00 Civic EX, 99-00 Civic SI, 96-99 Integra GSR/RS/LS and 89-93 Miata

Does anyone see a pattern?

^^actually, the RSX and the 240SX ARE CARB legal. I just got my email back from Greddy and i got my answer which is..."Not CARB legal or exempt at the moment, but we are working with the Air Resources Board to change that status" Well, this is the same thing that Turbonetics also said and something that will probably take a while be4 either happens since we have such strict emissions laws in Cali. Oh well. Thanx for the answers everyone.

Pretty sure the reason the kits for those cars are legal is because they did not remove nor require the removal of any factory emissions equipment and, once installed, emissions were not drastically, if at all, different than without it.

That, or Greddy threw enough money at the Board to get them to give them a go-ahead.

Getting CARB approval has nothing to do with popularity of the car.



That said, you will never see a street-legal, let alone CARB-legal, turbo kit for the Scion tC ever. All of them require the removal of factory emissions equipment (the catalytic in the header). And since that is currently a federal offense, you're pretty much screwed

At the Philadelphia Car show last year, they had introduced their turbo kit. I struck up a conversation with one of the GReddy guys and he told me in no uncertain terms that the kit is NOT CARB approved and is "for off-road use only".

? Did you take yours off? You would need to get one from Toyota or a junk yard I would think.

Will never be carb legal... If an intake can not be carb legal then a turbo kit will definatly NEVER be carb legal (for the tC).
