Default Catch Cans - Show 'Em if You Got 'Em!

I did a search and it looks like most of the images have been deleted since the last catch can thread I could even find is almost a year old.

I'm thinking about adding a catch can and I like to see some setups. I know most just run a line from where the PCV is on the valve cover, but I know some have said to vent the rear line as well. I appreciate any input (and pictures)!!

guy I bought my setup had a catch can. It seemed pretty pointless at least how he had it ran.. He basically ran it in line with the oil return line for extra capacity. I know that's not what it's for haha thought it was funny. I said why didn't you just mount an oil cooler

As in a line from the PCV to the catch can? No, it doesnt. Not sure if thats what you are asking though.

the way ace has it it most certainly can loose boost IF the pcv is stuck open. they tend to get gummed up over time with oil and sludge so it prevents the pcv from sealing. on a properly working pcv it will seal and hold (for the most part) positive pressure in the manifold.

It shouldnt leak boost. I ran it like that so it can freely vent out blowby gases, if I put a closed can then it would defeat the purpose and most likely be the same as clamping the breather hose.

yep but the key word here is shouldnt...btw that would suck too if you blocked off that port and you got into boost. the positive pressure would seal the pcv shut so you wouldnt have a vent for the engine, next thing you know you just made yourself an expensive mesquito fogger.. Iv seen that happen before...lol

A standard catch can will catch some vapor but it sill allows fumes to go straight thru because there is nothing obstructing their path. Vapor goes in, vapor comes out. They're just hollow cans.
A useful catch can will have an internal baffle which creates more surface area to help collect the fumes as droplets.

I have the Saikou Michi DC3 dual can setup - http://www.saikoumichi.com/DC3_page.htm
I had mine custom made with brass NPT fittings at both inlets and outlets. I was seeing a considerable amount of oil on the suck side of my SC. Even tho no can, even with baffles, will prevent blow-by my intake pipe is now pretty damn close to dry.

The can itself is tiny. Its like two soda cans, but maybe an inch or so taller. I empty them every 5k mi when I change the oil and the valve cover can is usually about half way full and the pcv can is maybe 1/8-1/4th full.

A proper catch can looks like this -

I'll post pics of mine asap.
