catted turbo question?

catted turbo question?
hey is it normal for the cat to glow orange while the car is idling after I installed my turbo...I have the dezod kit with the catted downpipe...
Also, my car sounds a bit like a lawnmower lol...but I'm thinking it's because its because I started it in 20 degree weather with the hood up and the bumper off....
my car leans out and sounds like it's gonna stall, and then runs really rich and bogs a bit. It just repeats this cycle and occasionally finds a good idle but then changes back again. Is this the ecu learning my turbo and emanage? this went on for a minute and then I shut it off when I saw the cat...

how long should it take to warm up in weather like this? It sounds pretty bad and really goes pretty drastically lean or rich when it's idling. Honestly I'm scared to run it just because it sounds pretty bad and I don't want to risk damaging anything.

Do you have a wideband that your getting these readings from?
Mine does the same thing when I first start it up . It only take a couple of minutes to warm up to the point where the afr's level off. I'd say your good as loog as it doesnt do this while your driving it after its all warm.

I say it's fully warmed up, when your Temp needle goes from C to it's normal spot in between H and C. When it reaches that point, then your car should not be doing that anymore. Again, This cold a$$ weather is going to do that to you. At the same time, you might experience an extra PSI or two due to this cold weather....lol. And I can't comment on the Cat in the downpipe, as I have no knowledge of that.

im going to give you my experiece with the dezod catted downpipe. for one, my car sounded bad because i had an exhaust leak (ya, like a lawnmower like you described). second, the afr's fluctuated a bit but not too bad. after i installed it, i let it idle for maybe 10 minutes before a test drive. your ecu still needs to learn. but one thing, my cat never glowed at idle (not sure after a full boost run) but i live in hawaii where temps never get below 60's.

Get your code read at Advanced Auto Parts.

Yes have the code pulled at Autozone or your work to see what it is. You may have a code for a number of reasons. Without the code, we are shooting blind.
Also, the cat glowing orange like that means it's getting too much fuel dumped into it. That is not a good thing on ANY cat. So I will almost bet that the car is VERY rich for your temps and altitude.

Ya I'm not worried about it anymore. Turned out I was missing a gasket on the block side of two of the injectors. This caused a fuel pressure leak in those cylinders so I'm guessing my car was trying to overcompensate by dumping larger amounts of fuel into the engine, and this was clogging up the cat. It just took a bit to figure out because it's so hard to see back there. So now my car runs almost like it did stock it's just a little rich still but that's expected from the base tune.
