Default Check out this crack *pix*

Umm, I just noticed the other day that my heat shield stuff on the underbelly of my hood was melting... and I was like wtf...

Well I found a crack in the flex portion of my downpipe located here:

Does anyone think I can just have someone weld up the crack? It isnt to wide of a crack, like paper thin... Or do you think I need to remove the piece and replace it? The reason I ask is because that will be one of the hardest parts to get off and I will have to uninstall the whole turbo in order to get it out and back in...

When the car is idling i can feel exhaust pumpin out of the whole and I can only imagine what kinda of performance loss this could be causing, I noticed my car has been sluggish lately...

Let me know what you guys think. thanks

that sucks, jsut take it to a local muffler shop or welder and have them weld it up for you, should be fine. This isnt the first cracked manifold ive seen on a t-netics kit

Oops, sorry, lol. but the portion that you have highlighted is not the downpipe either. its the dump for the wastegate going into the downpipe. still shouldnt matter, and a muffler shop shouldnt charge you anymore than 25 bucks to weld it for you.

In general, if the welds are not the best, or there under alot of stress, then a weld tends to break in any application

Its never happened on the turbonetics manifold. Where the cracks happen is on the Wastegate dump.

I hope thats a joke...i think it is. If its not .... look at the temp jb weld is good for ...its a lot less then a manifold temp.

that sucks. but i have to say, i'm not all-together surprised.

imo the whole manifold design is poor.

1-with how short the runners are theres going to be extreme exhaust pressure inside the manifold/wastegate and downpipe
2-the wastegate-downpipe is situated right off the 2 cylinder, which doesn't account for maximum flow capability and looks like it creates alot of backpressure. ie. the wg only really bleeds 1 and 2 cylinder...
3-the wg-downpipe itself appears to be 1/4-1/8" too narrow diameter. AND most importantly, the downpipe is supporting [some of] the weight of the turbo and downpipe/piping, which when driving on bumpy roads, over time will wear on those suspect welds.

overall, yeah, i'm not very impressed with the design, especially for a TNetics kit.

Of course it was a joke. For that, I would not, under any circumstance reccomend JB weld to fix that. Duck tape would be a much better solution.
