Concern on stock block
While everyone knows that i have been building my motor i would like someone elses thoughts on the stock ring gap...... i think that all these boosted Tc's would be able to hold more power on an abused note, because me and my buddys that build motors in mustangs and hondas and now subies were looking at it and think there too high if they were gaped more we could probley be able to push like 350whp and 12's @ 1320 allday everyday with a basic bolt on turbo kit... it's probley a useless topic but thought i would chime in on this

if you can get 350 whp, you'll run low 11's. I have 2 isuzu's that ran 11.5 with 320 hp, and when I bumped it to 410 hp I couldn't get comsistent results due to slicks spining and turbo acting wierd. and head gaskets of course. isuzu uses an iron block so it's not a problem.

and its not the type of emissions control its the basterdards in cali for making such strict rules on emissions, damn CARB.
yes obdii does suck for us performance guys, however being a tech and having to fix emissions problems, obdii is a life saver. obd1 is a nightmare when it comes to figuring out what the hell is actually wrong.

Lots of newer vehicles are designed this way. Just remember
Detonation is what breaks ring lands, not boost pressure!
Since you know you have weak rings, tune accordingly and make sure the car never detonates. The equation is 90%tune/10%motor. If you tried it the other way 90%motor/10%tune, you will destroy even the strongest block.

so true! I tune my motors with a set of ears on the motor (an electronic creak and rattle finder) it lets you hear the tiniest pinging before you could ever hear it in the cabin. I clip the pickup on the head and listen on the big earphones. i also tune my a/f ratio first with the timing set at 12 degrees across the board. once my a/f is around 12:1 under full boost, i increase timing (usually in the low 20s at redline) and I like to tune with c-16 to be safe even though it would probablt run fine with 101. gas is cheaper than pistons
