Cooling upgrades, koyo rad, turbo blanket, etc
Alright guys as promised, some pics and a short review on the Koyo rad and misc.
First impressions of the rad; well built, well protected and just plain beautiful. On the stock radiator idle could range from 194-215, it all depended on weather and if the car was recently ran on the highway. Drive thru would go as high as 215 and highway cruising at about 189-194. I really don't remember the numbers too well, so they could be a bit off . Heavy traffic was another whole ballpark I saw temps as high as 230, that's a bit too hot for my comfort.

This thing is awesome, I'm impressed at how well it dissipates the heat. When in traffic it will climb little by little to 204, but once it gets there and the fan kicks in at 202 it goes down to low 190's again. I also added a 170 degree thermostat to the combo to help with the situation, I think it is the perfect temp. I don't think any cooler than that in the highway is going to be any beneficial, it might wear the engine quicker though.
Another reason for an upgrade
For those having leak issues, these babies are the best. One on the left of coarse.
For the second part, I bought a PTP turbo blanket, exhaust heat wrap and silicone paint for the heat wrap. Initially the reason for it was to control intake temps, because they were getting a bit too high. Texas heat is killer and it can be felt when taking off during traffic. I have seen temps as high as 198 degrees, yikes . With that being said, I'm not gonna lie, it didn't help much. Maybe 6 degree difference during idle and traffic, highway cruise was still the same. Heavy traffic, well not much. One thing was certain and was that the car was pulling a lot harder though, the blanket was doing it's job in keeping the gases flowing much much better. Like 15 hp on the but dyno .
Last but not least, my new Intake heatshield invention. First of all, let me say that I'm more of a function over form type of guy. I really wanted to come up with something that could help lower the intake temps and it seems to be working. Idle temps range from 6 to 25 degree difference from outside temp. Highway cruse there's about 6 degree difference. Heavy traffic and drive thru can go up as much as 45-50 degrees, but it's much better than before. It definitely beats the extra 100 degrees I was seeing, before it was installed. Taking off from traffic is a breeze now, it doesn't fell lagy whatsoever.
One thing I would like to point out is that the maf is outside of the box and it might show temps higher than they actually are. I popped the hood a couple of times while testing it in traffic and air inside the box felt like ambient temp, the rest of the engine bay not soooo much.

looks great man, how many fans are you running? oh you stock radiator has pretty bad leaks, did you ever put those foams on the fan mounts for both the front and back of the radiator/condenser?

not for me though, not even with stock radiator. If ur na yes, maybe with a log mani if ur turboed.
Hey ace, I'm running 2 fans. One inside pass side as a puller and the one ouside driver side as a pusher. The stock radiator had a bad leak cuz I was lazy and didn't used 4 fan mount zip ties the first time, I only installed the fan with two one on top and one on the bottom. Not taking that chance anymore. What foam r u referring to? If you mean the thin strips on the stock rad, no.

^^ on that fan install kit (zip tie package) there is like some square or circle sponges with 2 way adhesive on it, that is the one im referring to. I learned my lesson to always put those between the ziptie and radiator and condenser. If you dont use those, the vibration of the car and fan will damage the thin fins of the rad or ac condenser. when I replaced my ac condenser on all 4 mounts, there is a leak on the fins.

wassuup Garret, if you like we can make one. I still have about 15' left of material. It took some time to figure out cuz the hole is not square. There's too many levels and turns, but it shouldn't take too long the second time. By the way, what mix did we used for ur rad last time? 50/50 and a purple ice bottle right?
Hey Ace, what mix did u used for the radiator? I bough some toyota 50/50 and mixed it with RO water and a couple of ounces of Purple Ice. So about;
Coolant 35%
RO Water 64%
Purple Ice 1% (couple of ounces per gallon of water/coolant, per instructions)

nah, all u need is a minimum of 30% to lubricate moving parts. I might have a bit over 35%, I was kind of rounding it up. Anyways, the more water the better ur cooling will be. Higher boiling point.
