pre-built kits are a great start for those that are new to the forced induction scene. it allows you to set a baseline with something solid and expand on. Not everyone takes this route, but it's a great learning experience having something built for youthen looking in to the expansion possibilities after that. Once you get your base tune (depending on management) it just a few tweaks down the road as you upgrade and expand your power capabilities.

just out of curiosity, but what part of this convinced you to go custom instead of a kit?
Mani? dyno? looks?

i think we had this discussion before, in this thread in fact, on what constutes a "custom" kit?

It'm my understanding that if you went to the same shop the OP did and asked for a "custom" kit, you would get pretty much the same thing he did.
Whereas others that have built custom kits have peiced them together, part by part, manufactur by manufacturer...and other still will actually have a new manifold and downpipe custom made specifically for them, which is what I think those guys in puerto rico did.

basically the dyno, and the price.
i know never to boost on a budget but that doesnt mean that you still cant save a couple bucks here and there by picking up some used parts from members on the forums. And to me its just so much more satisfying when you do something yourself instead of knowing that someone else did it....

piecing together a turbo kit is WAY cheaper than buying a kit
i put together a 14psi kit for $2300
and i put what i wanted on it instead of conforming
