Not sure of cost, Darton rates these for 40 psi.

We can offer a full long block, built head, or a build short block! The block should be able to handle anything you throw at it so long as the tuning is good.

So, moral of the story, unless the tuning is done pristinely, we recommend sleeving the engine for any decent power levels especially over 400whp

Would you believe me if I told you Chris Rado does not run sleeves in his 900+whp Time Attack tC, nor in the 2200hp Drag tC? That's hella pristine tuning and management working there.

I do not believe it. I know a few fellas on his camp, and I can verify.

However, they have destroyed more than their fair share of engines over time. I have been to 3 different events where Rado was up to race, however did not make it past the qualifying due to engine failure. So, it is, what it is.

Call Rado up and tell him he's a liar then... His words, not mine bro.

Then again, he does have a HUGE budget for the program and has probably over 100 hours tuning the car into it. Hell, Dan Gardner has over 100 hours of tuning into his AEM EMS. So, to some degree, higher power is ascertainable, but cylinder pressures of 40+ PSI of boost on a stock sleeve, doubtful.

Listening to him talk, he was speaking in the stratosphere of like 30+lbs of boost and then hit is BOOOYAAA! Button on the steering wheel, and it goes to whatever boost that the ambient temp, altitude and geographic location will allow (mentioned like 80 psi or whatever).

I figured he knows more about the car than I do, so not one to question him. He was hilarious though.

Putting it in the eloquent words of Rado:

"I see another dude on the straights and I be like NA UN DOG....BOOOYAA MUTHAFUKA"......

It's one of those moments that you had to be there...lol.

Anyhow, good thread/discussion Nick.

Scramble boost function is all that it is.

SCRAMBLE BOOST FUNCTION A scramble boost function is integrated in the display unit. When the SBC button is pressed, an increased boost level is triggered for a selectable amount of time between 0-40 seconds.

Actually it's not. I know what SB is. His BOOYAAA button is a different animal.

SBC button is on the left side, BOOOYAA MUTHFUKA button is on the right.

Hey may have a lower scramble (SBC) and a "Booya" high scramble mode.

After all, his father is a decently skilled electronics guy with lots of skill and $$. SO anything is possible.

Perhaps it's a dual SBC setup. I can't remember the whole thing when he was explaining it to me. All I know is I want a Booya button too...lol.

Rado and the boys do not sleeve the blocks. They also run a very good race fuel and I would imagine have great tuning.

The facts are that while you can run on a non sleeved block it also does not take much abuse to damage the stock sleeves either.

We bought a "good" engine from a junk yard for a useable core. It was supposed to be a good running engine, lol. What we found was a knock sensor that was not touching the block and cylinder 2 and 3 were trashed. The tops of the sleeves which are aluminum were cracked around and into the adjoining cylinders. The quench like pad on the exhaust side of the heads was blown out and into the cooling jacket of the cylinder head much like the damage a shape charge produces. This engine was never boosted to our knowledge. So it goes to show that with too much timing or uncontrolled variables all hell can break loose.

Better to be safe than sorry. If that engine which was stock can be blown apart by timing increases imagine what can happen with adding boost and a crappy tune.

Hell, look at some of the threads on here for evidence.
