just to clarify a couple things for those who don't know: the security on the ecu in terms of the immobilizer does the following: prevents spark. if the car actually starts, it isnt the immobilizer. the only way it can be related to that is if the transponder inside the key has been weakened.

as for the issue i mentioned before, i never actualyl figured out if my ecu was in fact dropping the key code with each loss of power. what i DID do is the proper thing to do: take the car to the dealersihp. they can overwrite the data inside the ecu in terms of the VIN and the immobilizer key... permanently. get it done, too! you dont HAVE to but it is good peace of mind.

edit: again my reasoning for thinking it isnt a permanent fix is that my battery was disconnected for a prolonged period of time at a shop. it wouldnt start back up. i rekeyed it and it turned on. you can come to your own conclusion on that.

Actually you are wrong / have other issues. It is a permanent programming & how Toyota programs the system. I am the one that originally discovered this many years ago. I have had the battery off of cars with ecu changes for weeks / months and never had an issue. If you guys want my original doc, look at page 14 specifically of the PDF in this link.

anyway, i just shared my experience and left it open to interpretation. i have had another issue with my car lately that is also electronic. related? dont know.

well, i've spoken with both of you about this issue via pm and email.... i'm still confused as to what is going on. As i stated before, everything is hooked up on my setup except the vacuum block. I have to get the new fittings from a hardware store to tap into the brake booster. Anyway, just to see if the ecu worked, i attempted to start the car.

Theoretically, the car should be able to start and run without the vacuum block hooked up (now why I would wanna do something stupid like that i don't know)...but in theory it should work. Before i do anything else, i'm gong to replace those fittings on the vacuum block, plug in all vacuum lines, and see where I stand.

My other issue is completely non ecu related....my turbo fins are scraping against something...thus, i have to disassemble the turbo from the manifold. Looks like i'm in for a nice looooong weekend :-)

Maybe I am missing it but what do I need to do to make sure my tire sensors continue to work? I am going to be going to a stock ecu soon for tuning purposes.

No you don't need any other keys, your not reprogramming anything to the ecu here. The ecu talks with the key transponder which is a separate ecu, yours keys are programed to the transponder ecu and no matter what main ecu you switch to your keys will stay programmed to the transponder ecu. When doing the procedure in this thread what your doing is programing the main ecu to talk with the transponder, you are not actually reprogramming any keys here, the keys are already programed to the transponder and your not touching that aspect of the system.

changing ecu does not change anything on your oem key. i swapped ecu and use my original key.

i didn't clarify my question enough. i forgot to mention that i am not switching out my ecu. i have the stock ecu (never been FI) and i just got an extra/spare key with a new transponder. i got the fob portion to work where i can lock/unlock the car but since i have a new transponder that's not programmed to my ecu, it won't start the car and im curious to see if i could do this process to program the new transponder/imobilizer to my ecu?
