Default Does the dealer have to install the S/C for auto?

I am thinking about getting the S/C for my 06 auto tC and plan on doing the install myself. I have searched around and read that for the auto's it is not possible because of the reflashes that has to be done with the ecu. Is it possible to install the s/c and not connect the charge pipe after the reflash (if i have to drive to the dealer for the reflash) or just take the ecu to the dealer?

Also what does the auto fit kit do actually for the install of the S/C?

Will installing it yourself or taking it to a mechanic shop void the warranty? Any response greatly appreciated.

no, it won't void the warranty but you only get up to 1 year, 12k miles on the warranty if you install other then the dealer.

You can install everything yourself, however you will not be able to drive the car. A dealer must do the ecm reflashes. There are 2. One that must be done with the trd reflash unit and another that must be done using tis and the toyota scan tool. So yes you can install it yourself but you would have to tow the car to a dealer and let them do your reflashes before you drive it.

Sorry forgot to add that for the trd reflash the ecm does not need to be in the car because the tool supplies power. However for the tis reflash it must be installed in the car as the toyota tool does not supply power the car does.

Pricing depends on the dealer. Also not all dealers have the tool from trd to do the install so you may want to check. I lowest quote I ever got was 400 installed with fluids. The highest was 20hrs at $100/hr plus fluids($2000 plus fluids) and $5500 for the unit itself. Yes this was a real quote I was given by a dealer in my area.

Thanks 06scionsc for your help.

Is this possible, can I install the S/C and take the ecm to the dealer for the reflash. Then later drive the car to the dealer for the tis scan (the tis scan is for the auto tranny reflash.. correct?).

There are some guys willing to ship the reflash tool in the mail. Try to find someone. A few of the sites are also charging but its more money (around $120ish if i remember correct). BUT - like I said ...some guys are charging more like $50.

I would call trd on that one just to be sure. I have never done an auto install before. The tis reflash is just to update the trans. I am one of the people who rents the tool for $50. If you are interested in renting it feel free to contact me. You would still need the other reflash though, as i only rent the trd unit.

What does the TIS reflash exactly do? Doesn't it make you stay in gear longer towards redline? Is that something that needs to be done?
