funny story that reminds me of. Their used to be this older military dude that used to live in my area. If anyone has seen the movie grand torino that main character was this dude except the other way around. He was white but he hated muscle cars so much and he drove a 4 door 97 civic. He built it 3 times since I had known him and it cost him close to 90,000. This guy was sooooooo serious bout it, he had all the latest products and ____ you would see in magazines on exotic cars. well he was running the open turbo like that and we went out one night on a cruise down into oregon and I was following him with my windows open cruising at some high speeds out in the middle of no where surrounded by farm fields and I kept hearing his turbo spool and the release air and spool and release air and then 20 minutes deep I hear the nastiest screeching noise I have ever head. Made me shake I pulled over with him and he had sucked a piece of tar into his turbine that the car infront of him kicked up. destroyed a 1800 turbo. compressor wheel was litterally in pieces and oil was pouring out of it.
so in other words not the smartest idea. At the track though different story if you put at least something on it that can stop big rocks.

i wouldnt be able to do that anyway bc i have the vents in my hood and they sit right over my turbo, but if i happend to do the blow thru maf set up i'd make a shield for over the filter to put on the turbo so i dont suck in water all the time wen it rains.
what about people that put that little "cage" over the compressor side were its open. i've seen people do that but its still pretty much the same as being open jsut big stuff cant fly into there, still wouldnt trust that though i like the filter just slapped on the turbo better than leaving it open

Update 6/19/2009
Ditched the AEM UEGO Wideband AFR. I didn't like it and the readings weren't as precise as I would have preferred them to be. I tried some different ground poitns and it still seemed to be off, showing a lean reading when I was really rich.
Anyway bye-bye AEM UEGO, hello Innovate LC-1 w/ DB Gauge FTMFW

Update 6/24/2009
Thanks to a fellow SL member my car is finally tuned, AFR's are on target and car fires up each and every time with no problems!!! I had no idea someone could be so good at street tuning; I would pay him but he did it just to help. He as been helping me ever since I got my car back from Lethal Injection and i'm so happy with the way it runs. I still plan on going to P-tuning to have it tuned again at the beginning of August.
So now that my plastic valve cover no longer fits I wanted to have the hideous metal valve cover powder coated but i'm a graduate student and I simply did not have the money the companies want to powder coat a valve cover so instead I bought the supplies to paint my valve cover wrinkle black.
This weekend I will have the energy suspension motor mounts installed and next weekend I will be installing the TRD rear sway bar, Mishimoto radiator, gates thermostat and fel-pro exhaust manifold gasket.
The Fel-pro gasket, while I have no proof, with RTV seems like it would seal MUCH better than the stock gasket. So I plan on installing it with RTV to see if my assumptions are correct. Here is a comparision of the Fel-pro vs the Toyota gasket.
