ECU ground location

ECU ground location
I ordered an Innovate lc-1 and was looking over the install manual. It recommends grounding everything to the same spot, including the ecu/piggyback if you are feeding it a 5v signal. I know this is probably them covering their @$$ for warranty reasons, but is it really that important? I tried searching for ecu ground/o2 sensor ground but didn't get what I was looking for. The instructions also mention to ground to chassis/block to match other components in system if you can't ground to the same spot, so does anyone know which the ecu is grounded to? Or am I just being to cautious

Well, looks like I should have been looking in ICE & Interior, always find gauge questions in FI though. Electrical wiring manual pdfs list this grounded to the engine block 'Left Side of the Cylinder Head'.
I'm still questioning how crucial this is, I have seen people post diys saying they grounded to the auxilary or cig lighter.

That's what I thought until I read their install manual, lol.
"All Innovate MTS devices like the LC-1 with dual serial ports should have their system grounds connected together to a common ground point. If an external data logger or ECU is to be fed by an MTS device, the MTS ground should be located at or near the ECU or data logger’s input
signal ground."
Like I said it probably doesn't matter with everything eventually sharing the same ground, they'll just use this as warranty refusal if you didn't follow exact instructions. I'll just check continuity between where I'm grounding and the engine block just to make sure.
