Default Engine Assembly - RTV ?

The Toyota sealant used to seal the oil pan and cam chain case is hard, seems much harder when set than the average RTV sealant.

My question is RTV the best to use for reassembly, any experience with quality of seal with RTV on the TC's.

Same question on brands, Permatex? Hi Temp or regular temp as oil pan and cam chain will not be reach high temps.

Id recommend using the Toyota FIPG. You can get it from any dealer for around $7 or so per tube, not much more than regular RTV. It may sound crazy, but oil pan wise, mine leaked both times I was in a pinch and used Black RTV. Never had it leak one drop with FIPG. All 3 motors I assembled have been all with FIPG also.

fipg is the bomb and all but getting the stuff off is a different story. Make sure it is what you want before you let it cure! My weld on my oil pan was leaking but I never thought to check it before hand. Doing your oil pan twice isn't fun!

Thanks all for the response, I will use Toyota sealant and check the oil pan weld as well before making it one again.

Appreciated !

Having the same problem used RVT and the bugger is leaking, only a tiny amount though but its annoying.

Anyone used the gasket that you can get online?

The Right Stuff from Permatex is also an excellent choice.
