Engine Build Estimate - Block + Head + Clutch Cost
Just wondering how much an engine build would cost (just labor)
Plan to bring the car there with engine still in.
Any one no any reputable engine builders in the Western New York area?
Wiseco Pistons
Carrillo K-1 Rods
TOGA Bearings
SuperTech Valves
Cometic Head Gasket
ARP Head Studs
Crower Valve Springs+Retainers

Id highly suggest if you have even decent mechanical knowledge/skills - to pull the motor yourself - the first time i pulled a 2az from a tc it took me about 7 1/2 - 8 hrs total - my most recent i was able to pull in under 4 1/2 hrs. A shop is going to charge you 8 hrs to pull and 8 hrs to install the the motor. At the avg current labor rate of $80-90/hr thats gunna be $1300-1500 - plus the cost to build the motor - the local machine shop i go to charged me $400 to bore the block - hone cylinders - clean it up - machine the crank - and assemble the bottom end - o yea and that price included the oversized bearings

I think sleeves are pretty much useless unless you either:
1.) Want to run really ridiculous amounts of boost (30+)
2.) Want to bore out the cyls to over 90mm (which would make the sleeves weaker anyways)
I wouldn't waste money on sleeves in my opinion. Stick with the stock sleeves and close to stock bore.

list of questions:
1. Do you already posses the parts you mentioned?
2. If not do you have to have those parts you listed? (their are 2 on their you will not benefit anything from and will save you money)
3. Are you trying to do the "job" on a budget?
Most shops will charge you "book" labor rates ie what it says in a Scion/Toyota manual to remove/install the motor.
That could cost more than the actual work you are after all by itself.
their are other options...
depending on what your goals/need are.
I'll wait and see what your answers to 1-3 are before I elaborate.

Todd
