Default Getting Tuned on Friday! A little Nervous though!

Well my tune is scheduled in for Friday. The cars going to be there all day and I'm penned in for 2-3 hours of tuning. I'm runnin the dezod kit on the base map. Is this amount of tuning necessary? The tuner (who was working on a twin turbo 350z when I met him) seemed a little sketch though. He asked what kinda boost I plan on running. I told him I'm on an 8 pound spring but I want to turn it up to ten. His immediate response was why not 12. I told him I don't think the stock block could handle twelve without water/meth or something of the like. He said he would try ten, and if that worked, eleven, and if that ran good, he would try twelve. I told him we'd talk about it lol. Should I just tell this guy to not turn up the boost above 10, or should I let him do this thing and try to tune for twelve? How could he run the boost that high and know it coudn't handle it without toasting my motor?

Dont let him turn it up higher than you want. All engines are different and the only way of knowing what an engine can hold is by personal experience or by word of mouth (forums). Most likely if he doesnt own a tC, he is not into the Scion forums and has no clue what our 2.4s can handle. Just because a 350z can run 20psi doesnt mean a tC can. Its your engine, your money. If the engine blows, i doubt he will be paying for it. So stick to what you have researched.

Michael, make sure that he doesn't go over what you want!!!

If everything is ok at 10 and you run it for a while, then you could bump it up if you feel comfortable.

It's your car, and you will have to pay if the motor blows.

I'd ask if he's willing to pay for your engine if it blows. Get it in writing and notarized, then let him. But yea, that does seem sketch.

stay with 10PSI, once you been riding around for awhile on 10psi and you feel confortable to up the boost to 12, do it but i would do it with a water/meth kit.

10.8 here. 12 when I feel froggy. 14 with Race Gas. Stock block. (but I am NOT telling you to run above 10 lbs on your car).

Actually, I would advise to stay 10 and below. Don't be influenced by a guy you don't know about a car that does not belong to him.

What Octane you have there?

In retrospect, the 350's engine is safe at no more than 9 PSI. You run higher than that, and your asking to pick up pieces of your block on the road (High compression pistons). We have an advantage of the Z when it comes to that aspect of boosting our stock motors.

Boost does not blow engines, detonation does. Watch the air fuel and use det cans for safety and 12psi could be fine.

No need to boost 12psi if its your daily driver. Set it to 10 and just stay there. It doesnt sound like you really wanna go over that, so dont let him influence you otherwise.

Engines do blow. (See my thread on this forum - lol)

I been running 16psi with stock internals for almost a year on a daily driven Tc with no problems at all. Do why you feel it's safe but I could tell by expirience, that the engine will hold!!!!!!

Ya good call guys. I'm actually not going to be there as I have school til one and I'm dropping the car off at 8. So I'm gonna tell him to hold off a bit and take care of whatever else if he can so I can be there for the majority of the tune. I'm pretty sure I can get away with 10-11 but 12 seems a bit pushy for now. I'll see how he does and if he really knows what he's doing then I may reconsider. I know a lot of the guys at the shop and the owner fairly well so I'm pretty confident that they're not going to try anything stupid. For the most part I just want a good tune but everyone knows how the boost itch is...lol
