Default GT3076R too big?

Ok so it's no secret that I am thinking about swapping out my GT30 for a smaller GT28 to spool a bit quicker and maybe increase power a bit more.

When I had my turbonetics kit i swapped out the turbo (56trim i think) in the kit with a slightly larger 60trim and lost about 20whp. My tuners said that with the low boost i will be running that I won't even begin to tap into the turbos efficiency and I will be loosing out on a lot of possible power in the mid range by using it. Here are my options:

Keep the GT3076r... tune it at 11-12 psi with water meth and suck it up and take the lag like a man.

Go with a GT28 compressor cover with a GT3071 wheel and keep the same divided turbine housing but just use a slightly smaller compressor to keep it spooling nice a fast.

What do you guys think?

With your setup.....

a GT28RS is pointless.

You would need to change your manifold setup to take full advantage of the GT28R.

Yes it would work, but not like it should.

Its not going to make more power than the G3076R..regardless of the manifold design.

dont worry about what other people think so much. Alot of those who you have been listening too have lead you down the wrong path and all it has done is cost you more money.

Give your setup a chance.

regads-

Todd

Stick with the 3076. Its a great turbo, and spools like a beast. Before 4k you feel like your in the backseat. Give it a chance, and go get a tune!

i think after hearin todd and brandon I am gonna see how the tune goes on monday... worst case scenario i drive with not the greatest results and just wait till the next engine project.

Definitely give it a chance...... its an awesome setup that plenty are jealous of, in the long run it should make you very happy (especially if you build that motor one day)

30r is too small go bigger i would find a better tuner and then hold on tight cause it should be fun...

3076 is a perfect match for our 2az. The others have it spot on, I would NEVER change my 3076 for a smaller 2860. Even on a 3sgte built I have planned, will be running either a 3071 or 3076...

Ive got to chime in here as well... Ive been doing quite a bit of research into turbos as it is my own intention to boost my 07 eventually (got lots of other stuff to do to it first - laying the groundwork so to speak - gotta save the money). every time I run the numbers, the 3076r comes out as perhaps the perfect garret turbo for the tc for any power level from 225hp at the lowest end out to 400hp at the top.

I say this because the 3076 hits peak efficiency right around 5k-5.5k rpm and doesn't surge until below 2k. choke? never happens on the 2az... matter of fact it would stay efficient until out past 7.5krpm if we could rev that high.

in any case, I am absolutely set on that turbo if I do choose to go garret when I boost. there is another option I am investigating that has the potential to be utterly evil, but I'm not gonna say any more lol

I am planning on 450WHP and the GT3076R maxes out at 400WHP? It's actually a 500WHP capable turbo.

Im not saying that it maxes out at 400... I am saying that it is most efficient across the widest rpm range in that power range

oh and after doing some quick and dirty calcs and a plot, a 3076r will choke on our engine at that power level (500hp) unless you can get the charge air down to 100 degrees or lower - meth would seem to be the order of the day for that.

this is assuming a gt3076r, .60a/r 50 trim

it is rated 550 crank hp, so at the max 500wheel. 400whp is a good respectable number and a good top number to shoot for with a 3076r

Stick with the 30... its not worth the $$$ to get a few extra hp at low RPM

First off, the T-netics kit is a 50 trim with a S2 .48 A/R turbine. So you going to a much larger 57 trim, and depending on turbine arrangement and such, the turbo will not be that efficienct. So, as a result you lost some power.

3076R, it is a decently sized turbo, but will depend heavily on what revs you're running it to, how much boost your making, manifold design as well as turbine A/R. Please post all of the following!

You mean .82 A/R? Assuming running a piggyback with stock redline of 6250?
