Default Help finding replacment for Dezod S1 Turbocharger

I'm looking to have a backup turbocharger in case anything ever happens to the one that comes with the Dezod S1 turbo kit. I know it has a T3/T4 Spec'd Dezod Turbocharger; I don't know much else about the specs on it.

I wanted to see if any of the below would be a direct bolt on match up.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pts/1206094103.html
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/1160728275.html
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/1163828157.html
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=259485

I really like the latter since he is a fellow SL'er but any feedback would be greatly appreciated on any of the above.

It is for my DD, I plan on running only 8.7 or 10psi springs loaded into the TiAL 38mm external wastegate. I plan to make up to 300whp, not exceed that by much if any at all.

Thanks in advance!!

you will not need a replacement for that much power unless you blow your seals because of a pinch oil return line or a oil feed line being to big. but if its a dezod kit you have then you will be fine.

Thanks for the reassurance but I like to have a spare handy anyway. I have spare wastegate springs, a spare wastegate, now I want a spare turbocharger. Any input on the turbochargers listed above?

well, find out what your specs are on your turbo before you buy a back up because if they aren't the same specs, you'll have to re-tune when you swap them.

Yup like drax said. But if you don't mind to re-tune might as well go bigger then you have now like a 60-1 or a 30r. In my opinion might as well upgrade.

Ecko

For a replacement, get any T4/T3 turbo that has a Ford-style 5bolt exhaust housing. Keep the compressor housing a T04E type and it should pretty much bolt up like the Dezod. The if you get different innards (wheel sizes) you will need a retune.

Ok, thanks a lot everyone.

I still don't know the complete specs on the Dezod turbo yet but I do know that the Turbonetics turbo was a direct pull from a Dezod kit back when Dezod was still offering their kits wit the Turbonetics turbocharger. The only problem with that is Dezod said they had complaints of the seals being blow on those Turbonetics turbochargers which is the reason why they stopped selling their kits with them.

I'm still waiting to hear back from Dezod but when I did a search on SL I found that the turbo in the Dezod S1 kit is a 50 trim .48 ar .... i'm still new to this so I don't know what that means but i'm assuming that's what I need to match up with a new one if I don't want to re-tune.

Hey Paul, it's the Dezod Spec'd T3/T4 Turbo Journal Bearing; the normal non-upgraded one that ships with the S1

OK. You have countless options. I have turbos starting at $700 for replacements.

I just want to secure a backup in case anything ever goes wrong with the one that came with it. The tuner shop said it was in excellent condition but it never hurts to have a backup. I would prefer one that just bolts right up without the need to get a re-tune.

don't make the mistake I did... when my first turbo went I upgraded, but no enough. The next toy on my shopping list is a minimum of a GT35R

60-1 is old technology, but is proven to work.

What are your power goals?

i wouldn't buy an "extra" turbo, if you want a spare turbo with the same specs why don't you just buy a turbo rebuild kit. So much cheaper. I beat the hell out of my turbos and I don't have a spare laying around. I even use two step which is hard on turbos

Power goals....to keep the car running until I pay it off

I don't do any racing, autox or anything like that, its just to add a little more power to my DD.

I'm not trying to create a 300+ whp FWD monster.

The turbo is more so for my pleasure, that's why I need it to be reliable. Something that won't keep me out of school if something on the turbo goes out and needs to be replaced or repaired.

Paul, what do you think about the Hallman MBC? I figured I would add one in since I don't have anything but the spring in the wastegaste.

That makes sense as well.
