Default holset hx30 ? hx35 ? hx40 ?

is anyone running anyone of these ? i have a friend with a gsx with the hx40 and it spools fast runs good and makes a lot of power. he highly recomends me running the hx 35 and letting him change somethings around to make it work how i want it. can i addapt a t3 flange and 4 bolt exit turbine housing to make it work with my turbo toyotas 2.1 manifold ?

shhh... don't stir the garret fanbois lol... TBH when I finally do boost, it will be with a holset. might even stick one on my 99 gmc jimmy when I eventually get around to overhauling it.

the HX35 is just about perfect for our engines, and matches up favorably to either the garrett GT30R or GT35R depending on the hotside housing. that and they are built to take PUNISHMENT - they are some seriously heavy metal compared to garretts, built for use on big rigs and last for 100k miles or more. the HX40 is probably overkill unless you do a valve/spring upgrade to increase the redline to 8k or so... that is the main reason why the 40 is so usuable on your friend's gsr.

easy enough to adapt - my recommendation would be to go v-band.

it's all up to you. i am only saying that a v-band would be my personal choice.

any setup using a holset is going to be custom, simply because their housings are bigger and heavier than their garrett counterparts. you might need - scratch that... you WILL need slim fans with our engine bay.

TT manifolds comes with T3 flange to the turbo.. as for the exit flange to the downpipe, you have a choice of vband to dp connection, depends on what discharge flange you turbo has

btw considering their average age now, it would be better to pick up an HY-35 instead of the HX. and yes it should bolt right up to a T3 iirc.

Buddy of mine runs an HX40 on his Avenger.. the motor is a built 420A (neon 2.0L motor). 26 psi and it spools really quick according to him.

yeah... holsets can really push air... the hx/hy35' can flow up to 67lbs/minute - with their peak efficiency in the 27-37lb/min range, which is right where most boosted tc's live. if you ever look at their compressor flow maps and compare it with a similarly sized garret you will be amazed.
