Chances are you received a 50 trim, E cover with a .48 A/R. Simple as that. Not much more you need to know.
This is not an attack - but NO WONDER you guys charge so much for a turbo. A straight Garrett T04E 50trim .60 / T3 .48/.63/.82 with Stage 3 exhaust wheel go for $520-$600 brand new. And you can even find them with a 360* thrust bearing for just $50 - $75 more.

Ask Garrett directly what those turbos are used for or designed for? They will tell you that they are not for automotive use, but for tractor, fork lift etc. Trust me, there are ton of people making kits with non-automotive fork lift & tractor turbos. Ask Garrett to warranty one, after it's been on a car with 2.0L of displacement, revving to 9K rpms....Then you will get what one customer came to me with when he ordered a kit from company X (name will not be mentioned) and 3 months later the turbo was shot.

? I used to be in the Honda group and no one has had that issue with a true Garrett purchased from an authorized dealer.

The turbo I mentioned is a straight off the shelf turbo from Garrett - for any use. p/n 466159-5003s is a popular one with Hondas. T04E 57trim with .63 Stage 3.

No one has had any issues with turbo failure or trouble with a warranty. I'm not sure what your customer did to get that reaction from Garrett.

lol don't love me too much just yet. I was also formerly in the DSM camp and the Vdub camp. I had a '91 (1G) Talon AWD and most recently a '01 Audi S4 biturbo.

But I'm glad I'm making friends.. lol

Paul stated what he did based on the fact not everyone gets there turbos from an authorized Garrett PD (performance distributor) as there are only 4 in the US.

There are however many Garrett Distributors (OE's) Original Equipment dealers, who get "out of the box" T3/T4's like the one you mentioned (5003 etc, etc) But they only get out of the box stuff, no performance pcs that can be put together.

And you would be suprised on what kind of comment you would get from one of them when asking what it was for? Tell them its for a car and see what kind of response you get (they are used to machinery and equipment)

And the warranty issue..............99% of all warranty issues are do to:

1. Too much oil pressure
2. Not enough oil pressure
3. Oil contamination

Which Garrett will not warranty if you have any of the above.

Most of the time turbos are warrantied because its good "customer service"

but 99% of the time its the users fault.

Regards-

Todd

Very true, Todd. From my own experience and along with experiences from my friends - we've never had an issue returning a failed turbo. Granted, we had only 2 issues ever with a true Garrett and our supplier was able to RMA back to Garrett. So perhaps the supplier could have aided our return by not disclosing certain information.
