Default Hydra EMS on a Turbonetics kit...

Well, Today was the big day. As some of you know my brother and I both have Turbonetics tC's. We both upgraded to full Hydra standalones! Today Tuning Factory installed the Hydra on my brothers car and mine gets done next week. I have a few pics not that great though.

Black 06 tC - Turbonetics kit made 255whp at 7.5 psi with the stock Turbonetics unichip tune. With the Hydra it made.....309WHP and 311WTQ! at 10 psi. with 11.5 afr's at WOT. We were able to get 317whp - 325wtq but we toned it down a bit.

The car runs insanly smooth. Spool up time is CRAZY fast! I was totally amazed at how well the car feels. A+ for standalones!!!

I'll have vids of mine hopefully next week when we install it. I'll be sure and post that up when I have it.

nice numbers...congrats man! When ur's gets done, try it also at 7.5 PSI and see how it compares to the unichip...just curious at the difference. Again, congrats

BuddhasTC, Thanks! I'll see what I can do.

Mr meaty. I'd say you cant go wron with either one. Both are very nice standalones. If I remember right there is a guy one here and he made like 310ish whp on a stock motor with 10 psi with a AEM. So pretty much the same.

Thanks Bob!!! No problem. Everything looks really good. I wanted to double check the boost settings in the AVCR on the street but Ben had to run so double check those please.
The unichip we will maybe test on Ben's car to see how much it is making prior to installing the Hydra but the standalone is so much safer in terms of timing curve and I was actually running about 12:1-12.2:1 at 7-8 PSI with no problems on your car Bob. On these cars it is excessive timing that makes them detonate more easily than too little fuel especially at lower boost pressures. I ran into that on Jackie's car as well.
The 800cc map I had from Jackie's car actually was pretty darn close to these 630's or 650's you're using. One other thing. Car was running kinda warm. That turbo is working pretty hard at 11 PSI and it is very evident it is made ONLY for stock motors. Another word of not it spools up about the same as Jackie's GT3740. I'll mess with the overlays later on with Ben's car to see some of the differences in the torque chart and see how they stack up. I tuned an STi after you Bob which made 5 cars I tuned in one day. I was a bit loopy after all that time looking at charts and numbers. Crazy

Bobby just took the car out for his first spin in it. He called me and was amazed. I'm sure Bobby will be up to MI soon to have the settings on the AVCR worked out. I told him not to touch anything! lol. It drove really nice the whole way to Kentucky today.

One thing though Dan. I was on the highway and opened up that dump valve that Bobby has just to see what it would do. 4th gear about 4000rpms and it didnt like it at all! Spuddered like crazy so I let off very fast and just closed it. I told Bobby to leave it closed till we get it back up to you.

Thanks again and cya next week!

Hydra seems like a good choice to gain that extra horse power on these kits that just seem to top at about 280whp at 10psi. I wonder what it would run on a ZPI kit that makes 300whp on the emanage?

I'm really interested in getting the hydra. Anyone have it on a built motor yet?

Funny you should say that. I have a motor being built for our turbo kit test car. It is a sleeved big bore and stroker motor with ported heads and waiting for Brian Crower to finish up the camshafts. Magnus is making us an intake manifold for it as well. Should be fun.

Great numbers bro! Glad to hear all is well.

I think the AEM has some promising results to convey when it comes to boost testing. All motor has been great!

Paul, I thought the AEM tC you had WAS on boost. When are you planning testing on a boosted tC?

and to you or guru, what is the price difference between the Hydra and the AEM?

Boost testing should commence in 1-2 weeks.

Hydra is about $1750
AEM is about $2000
