Hydro Lock Question

Hydro Lock Question
I wasn't sure which forum to post this under but here is my question. I just had the P-tuning turbo kit installed and while driving in the snow my front left wheel fender liner ripped off. Also, the plastic protector that is underneath the front bumper/engine had also been removed a few years ago from hitting a cone, my concern is now that the fender liner is gone as well as the other plastic guard, my intake is exposed to the elements. Do I need to reinstall the plastic liner asap? Need, I do anything at all? Your advice would be helpful. Thank you.

I would get something there to protect the filter but chances are your not going to ingest enough water to do damage unless the filter is partialy or totaly submerged in water. still need to get something there though, road debris will tear the crap out of a filter and youll have to clean the sob more often.

hydro locked my car in a rain storm. Luckily no permanent damage. I have been running a make shift short ram(motorcycle filter) for the past 3 years. Just recently bought new fender liners. I also bought a new CAI with bypass valve and hydro shield since I live in WA.

However, it will not protect it from hydro-locking.
Please keep in mind that in order for the motor to hydro lock, the entire filter has to be completely submerged under water.
Water splashing into the filter will not cause hydro locking.
Even if the car is lowered, the filter on the PTUNING turbo kit sits approximately 12 inch above the ground.
So, you would have to drive over a puddle of water about 1.5 feet in order to completely submerged the filter under water.
We all know that you shouldn't be driving a tC over a puddle that deep to begin with.
Hope this help.

Mike @ PTUNING

if ur filter is still under the hood, ull be fine. just as long as its not run like a cold air intake, than u may have a bit of an issue. but id def get another liner cuz bein it has a maf sensor, if theres any kinda restrictions (ie salt, sand, dirt & debris) ull have driveability issues and may throw a cel, or worst throw off ur fuel trims.
