I blew my block.....Under no BOOST..Is it possible??????
Ok... Im back again.......yesterday i went get a Greddy type-S boost controller installed in my car. the high setting was set to 8.5 psi and the low setting was set to the stock 6~6.5psi. the guy turn the gain all the way up. so while i was waiting in the waiting area in the front of the shop. the guy took my car 2 the road 2 set the controller. next thing the owner of the shop gets a phone call on his celly.. he yells "WHAT!!!!!!!!!" and him and 3 other guys run out the shop with a fire extinguisher and get in a car and flee... lol. im thinking wat the hell happened. and hoping it's not my car. 1hr later the owner comes back and says it's not good. my engine blew a rod made a whole in the block oil sprayed ouy on the turbine housing and then caught on fire, which melted my radiator fan and made a lil burn on the top of my hood. ash every where. the owner tells me that the installer/driver wasnt on boost when it blew. he said the driver/installer heard a poppin sound then BOOM and the fire. How do I feel u say.......U know how get so shocked ur speachless. and wish u cud go back in time...as if u cud of changed something................yeah. but anyway. I'm gonna need a new block. so i'm gonna get one from ZPI, the stage 1 long block or have the shop build me one. my thing is how does a rod blow when not under boost??? and cud it have 2 do with the gain setting to high.....sighs... guess i'll be doing mad overtime for the next 2 months and no days off..

damn sorry to hear that but dont you think if they are tryin out a boost controller the guy was boostin all the way up to see what level it was and then three goes boom and they jus told you that so they wont have you pay you? i say you make them pay cause they should have asked you to drive it and test it not the guy installing it so they should pay or at least you buy the new block and they do all the work and you dont pay them for the work lol

uh their fault...and if you let them off the hook you're a retard. that money needs to come out of their pocket. file with BBB if they dont take responsibility. if they still dont do anything then get a lawyer to write a letter and threaten a suit.

man i know how you feel. i threw a rod on my supra and the engine bay caught fire. i kept telling people.. if your going to run a turbo; carry a fire extingisher.
anyway; the shop is at fault and there are laws to protect the consumer. don't pay a dime. i'm a technician and if i blew an engine; no matter the circumstances; id be paying for it.
when a vehicle goes in for any type of service it needs to be returned in the condition it was recieved. contact a lawayer asap..trust me

he went out on the road to test the boost controller and make sure it didnt overboost and your motor blew. Sounds to me like a bad install or a bad driver. 100% fault goes to the shop. Dont pay a cent, and tell them you want a rental until everything is fixxed.

lol! that sucks man. but thats the breaks of the game when u play with boost.
theres no way i would have let them take the car out WITHOUT me in it. that way, they can say, "uh, i wasn't even boosting it yet (so its not our fault)..."
obviously something was F'd up. but u have no way of knowing or proving what it was, and who is at fault. take it as a lesson learned, and move on.
