is it safe to drive this car at 17-18 a/f ratio?

will it cause damage, ive been watching for overheating problems and it keeps cool, i think that would be the only issue, right?

First things first. Did you reset your ecu yet?? If you have not then do that FIRST! I had very similar conditions that you had before but the only difference was I was turbo'd. It was not until it got really bad that I had a code that said my front o2 sensor was dead. One thing I did notice was it got better if I reset the ecu but only for a little bit. It would idle at 14 AFR for awhile but then suddenly it would idle at 10 or less AFR. After that it would always idle at 10 until I reset the ecu again. Anyways I would try and change your front o2 with a known working one.

im going to agree with ace on this one but as always check the small stuff first. i wanna say it could be vac leak or a leak at the tb, if not those look to tuning to fix this problem.

you will not most likely see any overheating problem since out stock cooling system can manage a lot of heat.. but those afrs absolutely arent good, you will lose a good amount of power with those especially on boost and will raise up your EGTs..

reset the ecu this morning by pulling out the glove box and pulling all the harnesses for the ecu, then plugging them back in a few minutes later (could not find tool to remove batt terminal)

afrs were tons better, way easier to drive. cruising in 5th resulted in about 14.5-16 instead of the prev. 18-20

i doubt its anything under the hood, i checked all vac lines, they are all fine. regapped the spark plugs already to .028

getting tuned this sat.

staying out of boost hoping my car will make it to saturday

still dying at every red light just about, all CEL codes are cleared and gone

thanks guys

Why not just get a rental for the week? It'll be like $150 for a full week...which is thousands cheaper than replacing a motor.

Well the 07-08 maf is different than the 05. So if your using that engine with an 05 ecu i'd imagine there would be come calibration problems etc.

p.s. my 05 has a 2.5" intake at the maf, i know that for a fact cause i got one of those maf adapters that was 2.75" and didn't realize it made a difference untill i saw it was running lean.
