Default Idle Surging

So i did a quick search on this and didn't find anything other than "the tc sometimes has a surging idle - dont worry about it" from one person in one post

Anyways, I had been driving around with a prettty bad exhaust leak (toasted the turbo inlet gasket... 1/4 of it was melted off. its fixed now) and my idle was pretty stable (oddly enough)
Now the power still feels good, but the idle is realllly jumpy when i first turn on the car, and any time when coming to a stop after boosting. It stables out after it jumps up and down to about 500 up to almost 1500 about 3 or 4 times, then is stable. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it anything to worry about?

What blow-off valve are you using?? This almost sounds exactly like my Tial on my old stage 0.

Well my car has always done that when I cold start, pretty sure that's just everything warming up.

And as far as the neutral stop: I think, and I'm no expert, but since your BOV just release all the air in the intake, that the MAF sensor gets a little confused. Although the HKS BOV design helps with this, it's still not perfect.

did you change your spark plugs? i've never had a problem with my hks ssqv bov and i've had my kit for almost a year.....when i changed my sparks out for colder stepped ones, my rough idleing went away....never had an issue since....

this is normal. this has happened to me when i was completely stock and now that im turbocharged. i think it just happens a little more now that i'm boosted.

Good to hear that this is common at least... its still just a touch annoying though.... and yes i switched spark plugs to one step colder ones when i installed the kit.

^^ Exactly.

Your car was just sucking in lots of air and the MAF is sensing a lot of air coming in and then all of a sudden, the BOV releases that air and the MAF goes "what the heck? Where'd all the air go?!" causing the car to take a few seconds to even out and go back to normal.

curiouser and curiouser.... i think im going to run a compression test regardless... i cant decide if i am losing power or not. My friend was saying the car sounds a lot different than it did.... and i dont break traction in 2nd like it did when i first got the car tuned, but that could be attributed to the slipping clutch im not sure... in any case at least if i do a compression test i know the idle surging is most likely nothing to worry about.
