important announcement!!! Now w pics AND VIDEO! 6-14-06
We got our Stage 2 up and running today. 2 words... HOLY GOD.
The car pulls from 4k on like I couldn't believe. I didn't have time to grab a new brass plug for the compressor housing yet. So I'm actually running with a hole on the side of the compressor housing. This means much less efficiency and an "off" maf reading. Once I plug it tomorrow I can only imagine how much faster it'll be.
With the 18s 2nd gear is a joke, and 3rd gear rubs the tires and torque steers pretty niceley (not a nice thing!!). We're still at the base 8.7psi and it feels better than it did at 10.5 on the smaller one.
As for our high interest new engine management system...
It is not complete yet. We made a lot of calibration tables for it today, and I FINALLY got the closed loop tuning under my control. I can make the car idle at any AFR I want. We're just now hung up on a couple small issues that will take tuning to a whole new level. We will not release this EMS until all the bugs are worked out and we have full control of the motor. We are retaining the stock ECU, so cold start and TBW will still work fine.
Tomorrow and Saturday there will be pics, and HOPEFULLY some videos. Don't expect dyno numbers until we finish the S2 EMS system. Once that's done we have a real race rocket on our hands.
UPDATE: Installed the brass plug and the idle is fixed. The car makes full boost right at 3650rpms. It makes 2psi at 2000rpms, 3psi at 2300rpms, and about 6psi at 3000rpms. Car pulls hard as hell and we're looking forward to taking it to the track once the weather drys up out here.
Here's the pics you all have been waiting for...
Stage 2 EMS in development (Yes I know I've blocked out the box haha...
Stage 2 turbo pics:
I know I "blued out" the specs on the turbines and AR. We keeping this private. Sorry guys.
**UPDATE 6/14/06**:
HERES A VIDEO FOR YOU PEEPS!
Conditions:
80 degrees and humit
8.5psi, 11AFR, -4 degrees timing
2 people
full interior (4 12s, 4 amps, xbox, etc).
Just a quick little vid... Much better ones to come...

this is awesome
I gotta agree with you not giving dyno numbers until everything is finished. smart decision.
the kit sounds great though, looking forward to more updates on it

As am I. I can't wait to see what everyone thinks haha.
In the meantime, I've been trying to think of some cool new video ideas. Should be fun.
BTW - Our S2 system is designed to be an upgrade/variant of our S1.
Our S2 uses a different fuel system, and replaces the turbo with a larger one. Our FMIC that comes with the Stage 1 is used on our Stage 2 because it supports up to 550WHP and keeps your OEM metal bumper. We know that at the speeds the system is capable of, it's important to have some protection up front. The IC fits directly below your metal bumper so you still get the safety you paid for when you bought a Scion.
Oh and the lag... Not too bad... It does start spooling a decent amount of CFM below 3k, makes 5psi at 3k in 3rd gear, and is fully spooled at 4k in 3rd gear! For a race turbo I don't think you can ask for much more than that.

This is going to be REALLY good. I for one am VERY excited about this. You rock, Joe! If you have time, you should come back down to Boston for a weekend. Particularly, July 22nd when we have our show, lol.
