Default KO4 turbo?

Okay, so i'm new to F/I but i have studied about it on here for about 4 months now and am getting to know quite a bit about the different turbo kits for the tC (the pros and cons of each). However, i went to a local shop today and a guy mentioned that maybe a KO3/KO4 turbo might work pretty well....i know nothin about either one so any information would be helpful...thanks guys/gals. BTW, the guy said that those were 2.0L applications and that his shop has not boosted a tC before.....any comments would be greatly appreciated.

And secondly, what other turbos would be good for our car? (Hope that's not too broad a question) The only ones i know of are the ones in the kits (16g, 18g, 20g, t3/t4).

16g is the absolute smallest I would go... K04 is way to small, might as well buy a hairdryer and mount it up..

Ideal is anything 16G or up.. My favorite at the moment is the 18g, but would love a 20g...

why a 20g? The guy at the shop said that a KO4 would render about 320whp but that might be at a lot of psi.

Is a KO4 at 20psi worse on an engine than a 16g at 12psi (rough numbers but roughly the same whp--i think)? I figure it is worse since it's 6 pounds more pressure.

The k04 is rated at 225hp... 18g=400hp 20g=450ish..

A 16g or 18g will put you at 240whp with stock everything else.

I would say an 18G would be the ideal mid center in case you later want to up the boost. It can go from 7-8psi all the way to 30ish something psi. But I would use that turbo for those high psi levels. A 20Gwould work wonders there.

k03/04 are popular among audi and vw. the B5 body S4 is bi-turbo charged with k03 US, k04 Euro spec. those things spool fast, you get a flatter than flat torque curve. they easily run 300 ~ 450 hp, but that's 2 k03/04, not 1.

with all that said, unless you are going to run a bi-turbo set up, listen to what ppl posted above and go bigger.

What about the answer to this question....

Are a 2 KO4s at 20psi worse on an engine than a 16g at 12psi (rough numbers but roughly the same whp--i think)? I figure it is worse since it's 6 pounds more pressure.

And what other turbos might work on our cars...i just kinda like to be different.

its not about psi, its about CFM and if our cylinders can handle it.

1. cost
2. reliability
3. power
4. different

choose 2, and lose the other 2.
