Default Krdshrk's GReddy Turbo-Update 9/1-New Timeslip Page 9

I'm gonna take some of my free time and chronicle this build. First off - I've got my N/A Auto transmission 2006 tC - most of you know it. The only power mods are the Umnitza Short Ram intake, GFI Stage 3, and TRD Exhaust.

I purchased the GReddy turbo kit - My goal: 250 WHP

Here's the build (With Pricing):

Bought from TPD Racing:
GReddy Turbo Kit for 05-06 Scion tC - $2350
Stage 2 Fuel Management Upgd. (Emanage Ultimate, 440cc Injectors) - $778
HKS SSQV BOV - $168
Shipping: $80

Bought from Stripper Motorsports:
AEM UEGO Wideband A/F Gauge & sensor - $255 shipped

To Be Purchased (Prices not including shipping):
Dezod Emanage Ultimate wiring harness - $315
Flex-a-Lite Automatic Transmission cooler - $36
HKS SSQV Modular Weld-on Flange - $26
Creative Compacts 3-Gauge Pillar pod - $60
Greddy Full Auto Turbo Timer - $80

Boost Gauge - $50
Boost Controller - Either the Apexi AVC-R or GReddy PRofec B Spec II - $350-$500
or
Boost Gauge/Controller - AEM Tru-Boost ($285)

Install quote - $1100-$1500 (includes tuning).

Other items:
ZPI S-Pipe (Already have - purchased used from an acquaintance)

The GReddy Turbo kit is already here:

Now - here's where I'm looking for input:
1) Which Boost controller should I go with? I was told the Apexi AVC-R is the best option, but is that too much for this install? Is the GReddy PRofec B-Spec better in terms of need? A third option I was thinking about is the AEM TRU-Boost gauge type controller/gauge. It would match my AEM UEGO gauge more, and would be a bit cheaper - but how would it work in terms of this application?

2) I know I'm going to install the ZPI S-pipe I have, but should I add on an aftermarket midpipe (ie: Megan)? I would like to keep my TRD Axleback exhaust because I love the sound and look. Your thoughts?

3) What should I put in as the 3rd gauge - Transmission temperature? I think that's the most important besides boost & A/F... at least in this application

4) Turbo timer - which one? Is it needed?

Your feedback and comments are welcome

3) I think that A/F, ETG and Boost gauges are very helpful in every turbo setup

a turbo timer isnt really necessary unless you want one just to have one.

just dont go crazy the last mile or two on your way to your destination. if you do, just let it idle a bit when you get to where you're going.

1) AEM Tru Boost Sucks, Get a regular boost gauge and a manual boost controller. I have the AEM tru boost, every tuner i know hates it.

2)Midpipe would be good idea

3)Temp is fine or Oil Pres

4) Doesnt matter, im running the greddy one.

+1 the stock exhaust componets on the tc choke turbo setups badly, if u have the money just get a full turboback, that will get you up to your power wants or even more......

S-pipe + midpipe + axelback should be enough, right?

the guys at ripp were saying they would moniter oil pressure if they could... im going boost, pyrometer, and oil pressure as well as the aem wideband...

side notes: invidiva s-pipe is out, and there is a GB for it here on SL

and from all the tuners i have talked to, a turbo timer is not really needed for our modest set up... just dont drive it hard then turn it off... as he said " a car is not a hooker, dont ride it hard then leave it at the side of the road..." I have a remote start, and that will really help to ease the turbo into gettin ready to do the dirty work...

Nick, dont forget to get in touch with me so i can join you on install day!

Yeah - i've been thinking about oil pressure... I might go with that too.. Maybe a transmission temp gauge in the cubby... since it's less of a worry.

Don't sweat it, Scotty - i'll let you know when :D

A/F, Boost, and Oil pressure it is (For the pillar pod). I'll put tranny temp in my cubbyhole.

Yeah, Vito - i got remote start. From what i'm told i can configure it to run right. Don't need the TT then.

Huh? Demise? Nothing's wrong with my car...

Update:
Switching to a manual boost controller. The fancy electronic ones cost too much.

Gonna get the Megan midpipe too, unless someone has another one they're willing to sell me ;)

I noticed your list is missing the Dezod Black Box. You are auto and you will need it. The Auto's hang around in closed loop too long (It's the way the ECU works) The car will leave you in gear until the accelerator pedal is pressed past a certain point. This puts more load on the engine and will not let the RPM's zip through to open-loop RPM's like the 5-speed guys do. So know you'll be boosting for while at 14. 7 until you get to about 3500. emanage ultimate is not going to fix it (it can't tune the closed-loop either). GB on the Dezod black box ends soon so if you are going to buy it -do it soon.

Go with the TSUDO N1 it has the midpipe and axle back, it's 2.5" all the way back, and it's only like $250 shipped. You don't have to use the axle back but the $250 for the 2.5" midpipe is worth it.

Website says it has a spipe but no one has confirmed it yet.

No thanks. No eBay special exhaust for me.

ERIC-TC - i'm pondering it. Not sure yet. I'm checking with RIPP to see how they can do with or without it.
