Sorry to hear about the prob man.

KITS don't blow motors. Tuners do. Simple as that. Too many tuners trying to cut corners and not do things the right way. I see it all the time.

The reason is simple why you are seeing all of the blown motors lately with our kits: We are the highest volume Scion tC turbo system manufacturer.

If you need a motor, try TAPP Recycling in CA.
Thanks, I'll look them up

I agree with Paul. A turbo system is really very simple. It's the tuning that makes it all work reliably. Only thing other than a problem with the fuel or timing mapping that can cause such catastrophic failure is perhaps loss of fuel pressure or maybe a leak before the turbo butu after the MAF.

How can someone say the kit blew the engine when he flat out admitted he was in cruise control?

So in vacuum a turbo kit will magically blow the motor?

bruceg, did you pull the pan off to see what happened? Did you hit something in the road and put a hole in the pan?

I'm pretty sure i didn't hit anything...it was weird...i had the radio up a little bit (not blairing) and it felt it miss a little and it was ok so id didn't think anything of it..AFR was still cool....then it did it again so i turned down the radio and pulled over...smoke everywhere and oil all on the road....

We didn't pull the pan off yet....if the oil pump failed for some reason would it cause something like this to happen? I mean...we were not even in boost..just cruising perfectly normal and then it happened...

That is possible, and what I thought originally on Paul's car.

How does the oil pan actually look? You can send me a picture or to by email to me if you like. Have you checked your oil feed and return lines? I know the oil pan has a hole in it, but if the oil lines were leaking and the oil level got too low, then it may have caused a rod failure. Make sure to check everything and call or email me if you have any questions. Good luck!

I never seen a car just pop for no reason (if your in cruise your in vacuum MOST LIKELY), odds are IF your were in cruise it increased the throttle as you may have been going on an incline and the Toyota cruise control unit will increase speed. To snap a rod takes A LOT to get out of the tolerance range but it must of went lean after all these motors are econo-built (piston/ring landings). Wish you the best and sorry to see that happen.

If you have a leak after the MAF but before the turbo you will suck in unmetered air in boost and run lean. Are you sure you had enough oil pressure on this motor? Sounds less like a detonation issue and more like lack of lubrication issue.

it sucks, hope it just an internals issue not the whole block, but this scares me.. i'll be cruising to my tuner for 6-7 hrs and it would suck to blow a motor even on vacuum not sure how likely is it to happen.. i really need to get my cruise afrs down though to be safe

If you left the cruise values at 0 wouldn't you be fine ?

How about if a fin off the compression side of the turbo broke off and went into the engine and wedged inbetween the piston and the cylinder wall . HIGHLY unlikely, but I just had to throw in the possibility .

Not with the FIC. ZERO does NOT denote a stock value.
