Default MPG numbers for my Supercharged tC ****MAY 18 UPDATE***

I track my gas milage on every fill up. Just wanted to share for all the people always wondering what a supercharged tC gets.

I installed a Injan CAI the day I got the car with 4 miles on it.
I put 18" wheels on 7 nov 05.
The dealer put the supercharger with reflash on 2 dec 05 @ 2199 miles.
I ran premium fuel since purchase.
All fillups were complete fills.

Oil change a few days ago.

You can see where I drove all highway miles by the dates of fillups on 17 nov and then on 21 Jan. They were 310 miles eachway non stop with cruise control on. As you can see the first trip was without the s/c and the second is with and the results are about the same.

I didnt finish the total avg because it take forever to figure out. You can crunch numbers and make assumptions as you like.

Ask questions on my driving habits if you want. ENJOY!!!!

pretty similar for us; though we've been using more fuel lately warming the darn thing up then on those quick on-ramp blasts ( -16 degrees Sat am; that does need a wee bit of warm up time ). If we are "easy" on the car, and with most of the wife's driving on hiway speeds, we pull 26 +/- for tank average. And add in some quick runs and the cold day crap, maybe 23-24 the lowest so far.

I keep pumping till I hit an exact number. You can get like up to $.75 in after the click.

i am going to update every oil change so it should be intereasting to watch, how much gas I go through, prices, and fuel economy.

Yeah gas is cheaper here in VA. I drive up to PA now and then and I know its more expensive up there.

If you're topping it off (keep filling after the tank automatically clicks off), then you aren't exactly getting the correct MPG.

Sure I am...MPG isnt based on how much your tank holds, it is based on how much fuel I used. If I fill my tank completely. Then drive 21 miles and top it off completely and its 1 gallon...then my MPG is 21 MPG.

If I fill my tank completely and drive 210 miles and top it off completely its 10 gallons...then my MPG is 21 MPG.

Makes no difference, as long as I fill it all the way each time.

it does make a difference. im afraid your mpg numbers are calculated wrong. every time you fillup you're supposed to use the first 'click' that determines the tank is 'full.' then you use your total miles to divide it by the number of gallons you pumped. that click determines how many gallons you used on the trip. the # of gallons you pump past the click is adding on more gas to your calculations that you didnt USE in your trip. hence why the click is most important because its the only indicator to correctly assume how much gas you consumed in that trip.

But if I fill it up to complete full each time...I have the same total amount in the tank as when full the last time.

but lets put some numbers of how much it affects if I pump after the first click. As you can see I always pump to a number of XX.00, XX.25, XX.50, or XX.75. That means I pump past the first click to a roundoff number. So at most I put $.24 more gas in my car past the first click.

If gas is on average $2.30 per gallon and I put an extra $.24 in each time that means I have .17 more gallons in my tank that what you think it should have.

So that means that if I do this one time and not every time that I need to add .17 gallons to my total used, then divide my total miles by my amount put in plus .17. (thats assuming that I do it past the click once but not this time)

Take my first fill up. I put 12.344 gallons in. (maeaning I used 12.344 gallons since last fill up. Now add to it we get 12.514 gallons used.

Now I traveled 285 miles on that 12.514. Divide 285 by 12.514 and we get 22.74 MPG.

That means that at most my number are off by 0.34 miles per gallon. That is assuming that I dont fill it up the same amount each time.
The total volume of the tank does not matter, as long as it is filled to the same point or close eash time. And as you can see by the amount I am off...the results are minuscule unless you think 0.35 miles is a huge difference.

damn...i thought that because i had 18's my gas mileage sucked but ummm...wtf? i am basically doing a chart similar to that, but i just have the dates...the total mileage, how many gallons...and the average. i am averaging about 20-21 miles per gallon and i have a bone stock AUTO tC with 18's. i dont race, push it hard or anything... it sucks because I KNOW that the mileage sucks...but the dealer refuses to look at it until 5000!!! anyways, im going in this weekend and going to be a _____ until i get what i want. now i have another arguement seeing that you are averagin 20 with a S/C and 18's. sorry for the thread jack...but what can i do to improve my mileage, or is it the car?

blackonblack: Good luck with the dealer. You arent going to have much luck unfortunatly, because they will say its your driving habit...and thats kinda hard for you to prove how you drive. I hope it works out for you and that the car is ok.
You need to find out what your wheels way. They should affect gas milage because they will be the same diameter as the stock 17"S. But if the weight is more, that might be a factor.

the wheels are light...i can lift them behind my back and do curls!! and im not a muscle man!!! they are the same if not lighter than stock. and those damn bastards at the dealers(i have been to 3) either say they wont look at it until 5k miles, or that i push the car to much....anyways i have contacted SCION so lets see what happens now
