Need drag racing advice

High hp fwd car + open diff = disappointing drag times.
Slicks will definitely help, but an lsd will give you major improvements.
Also, if you are already having traction issues, why would you put in a lightweight flywheel?
If you are going to be installing a new clutch, it is the perfect time to install an lsd.
Have you considered using a phantom grip? Much cheaper than a quaife/etc, with nearly the same benefits if you are on a budget.

Here is a never installed one for $100.00 for sale on SL. Cheaper than a new flywheel...

Has anyone here ever used a phantom grip at the track before? Anyone running this in there car? I have known of the phantomgrip since before my scion, but had my doubts. Seems like one of those too good to be true prformance parts for that price.

maherdan82 if you interested i have a set of drag wheels with slick 15x8 wheels with 24x8 MT tires. as for the Phantom grip they do work but for what they want for one. i would rather spend the extra money and go with TRD (Quaife) or OBX.

If maherdan82 isn't interested I may be in the market for some slicks & skinny's in come the end of April.

I did some google searching. Plenty of race teams have used phantom grips for seasons of hard racing, as well as individuals with no problems.
The obx WILL need to be completely rebuilt before use. I did quite a bit of research on them before picking up my quaife.
Many people seemed to have problems with them years ago.
The phantom grip basically turns an open diff into a VLSD, for the price, it can't really be beat!
for some good info the obx lsd (which can be rebuilt and be a very reliable piece), check out this LINK .

Seems like people are making an lsd out to be a must have for drag racing... it isn't. An lsd is designed to work when a tire unloads when turning, it takes what available traction you do have and distributes it to both drive wheels . if you are having traction issues going strait, you need to set up your car with soft sidewall, sticky tires. ( Drag radials or drag slicks)

So you're 60ft times are the same even with an LSD? Don't get me wrong, I know the effects of an LSD shows more results in cornering like you stated above but having an LSD in drag racing does help. I think the suggestion to the OP is since you'll have the tranny out might as well do the LSD since he's upgrading the clutch & flywheel. IMO better to spin both tires then with an open diff where you run the possibility of one tire spinning more than the other. I do agree that a stickier soft sidewall tire is a must.
