Default Need Help Can't Pass Emissions

My Setup is the Turbonetics kit with Greddy Ultimate. At first my check engine light was due to my secondary O2 Sensor not being plugged in and I've fixed that by getting an invidia s-pipe and welding an extra bung on it for it. I reset the codes and my car runs fine and I'm trying to do the drive cycle but the first time i did the drive cycle and accidentally went out of Vac I threw codes P0440 and P0401 which is EGR Valve and EVAP. So I then reset my codes again and try not to hit boost and when I got to my friends shop he told me that I need to get one more code ready and then I can pass emissions.....Has anyone passed emissions yet with a turbo kit? If so please give me some advice I would appreciate it a lot..

You're not going to pass emissions with a turbo-kit. You have one less Cat, and no Hydrocarbon Trap Filter, also the kit is not certified to be smog legal in any state. Doing it under the table is your best bet.

But then again I come from the land of C.A.R.B, things may be different in other states. LMAO

depends on what state your in. for my first emissions test, all i had to do was pretty much drive up, show that i had a working gas cap, and no CEL and i passed. don't know when i'm going to have to get it hooked up to a sniffer, but anyway.

i'm going to try and drive it again tonight for a good 100 miles without getting out of vac and see what's good. My friend says as long as i can get the EVAP Code Ready and cleared without a CEL I'm good to go....He says that with OBDII Cars you can only have one incomplete.

yeah, I know in Vegas you just gotta have no CEL, but I have not actually DONE it yet.

Thank you for proving that you don't have to pay Joe Crackhead $100 to pass with a turbo.

Good on ya racercky!

Hey RacerSky:
So did you actually fix your CEL, or did you just drive around and not hit boost?
I mean, after you passed SMOG and got into boost again, did your CELs come back on?

After I passed smog and hit boost again my evap cel came back on.....I believe I have a bad sensor cause the evap sensor is making this really loud and annoying clicking sound.

That's awesome! Not that your evap sensor might be busted, but that you actually still have a CEL but passed smog by staying out of boost!

Well if you think about when your staying out of boost the air going through the vacuum line will stay consistent and so the evap sensor won't be acting retarded

That's what I do. Disconnect the good old battery to clear the CEL. Drive without boosting to the station, they scan....no codes. And then spool and hit boost after I leave....

I don't have a Cat either, but for new vehicles they don't really care at the station I go to.

right...but you get the p0420 cat code...not the evap code racer is getting, right?
Not that it matters for my setup anymore cause the other map I put on runs with no codes. yea for me.

The only code I ever got was the Secondary 02 sensor. Right now, I'm throwing "to rich" codes. So, I need to get a tune real bad, and change out the plugs and probably get new 02 sensors while I'm at it.

I would think that the gas tank vapor system needs vacuum from the engine to work properly and when you go to boost you presurize the charcoal canister with intake blowback instead of vacuum. I would think that a one way check valve and maybe a vacuum canister on the tank side of the check valve would solve that problem. Blowing turbo boost into the gas tank is NOT a good thing!
