New LSD for the tC

New LSD for the tC
Hey guys, I just got word we are gonna be offering an alternative LSD to the Quaife aka TRD one. It will be a little more expensive, but not much more than $200. It uses different technology and was developed and tested by Dan Gardner on his 2007 Road Race tC.
A writeup about it in Grassroots Motorsports comparing different diffs

From the engineer:
Because our diff actually locks to 100%, it generates far less heat than traditional
clutch type differentials. We recommend that owners change their fluid once within the first 3000miles (to ensure any foreign elements are flushed). From that point, they should change fluid as normally (typically every 30,000miles). Track users, may want to change more frequently depending on region and type of race.
This item will be available on the website this week!

That is awesome. Who is the manufacturer? I read that GRM article a couple of weeks ago and it really got me thinking about the Quaife unit. I'd love to get a LSD in my car, especially for autocrossing.

hmmm...interesting...but i don't really see the advantages of it over the quaife differential. the only reason i was able to pull out of the descriptions is that if one wheel is completely unloaded, then the quaife differential is the same as an open differential so this os giken differential is better on bumpier tracks...
but this is a clutch type differential, so it has parts that can wear out...

^^For the most part yeah same thing I was thinking. I think having an alternative is great, especially since it's OS Giken. The really only way honestly to decide between the two would be to have two tC's one with TRD and one with the OS Giken, and do some kind of comparison shoot out.
But that would be a little much to ask for already. For the consumer, it's just going to have to be a decision left up to "Chance", and being "Different".
I already have the TRD unit, so no turning back for me.

the only problem is that when under full throttle acceleration, the car can be very twitchy because the car will just pull to the left or right when the steering wheel isn't perfectly on center.

nice to have another unit available, but like the others said, small benefit over the quaife and 200 bucks more then an already expensive unit, maybe if it was the same price!
hopefully this will lead to more differentials comming out and perhaps a cheaper one, one day!

Dan Gardner ran the TRD LSD for the first half of his 2008 season, then the OS Giken for the second half. I have him writing a quick comparison of the two when he arrives back from his last racing trip.
